Kidnapper of Elizabeth Smart Arrested Again for Shocking Violation!

Wanda Barzee is facing legal trouble again.

20 years following the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, who was only 14 at the time in 2002 and held captive for nine months, Barzee was apprehended on May 1st in Utah. This was due to her visits to at least two parks, an activity that is prohibited for registered sex offenders like herself.

According to reports from TopMob News, it was documented that Barzee breached the conditions of being a registered sex offender in Utah, based on the records they reviewed.

Brent Weisberg, speaking on behalf of the Salt Lake City police, informed NBC News that Barzee was reportedly seen at Liberty Park and Sugar House Park recently. As per the Utah State Legislature, areas like these public parks are classified as “protected,” and registered sex offenders are prohibited from being in them.

As TopMob News reports, Barzee was freed from police custody on May 2nd, following a court order. Previously, she admitted guilt for kidnapping and illegally transporting a minor in connection with the abduction of Smart back in 2009. This information was confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Investigations at that time. After being sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2010, she was released in 2018.

Her spouse, Brian David Mitchell, who was alleged by Smart in 2009 to have raped her every day during her captivity, is now serving a life imprisonment due to his conviction on charges of interstate kidnapping and illegal transport of a minor across state lines.

Barzee’s apprehension transpired approximately a year and a few months following when Smart, who is currently 37 years old, reminisced about her kidnapping in March of the previous year.

In a TikTok post marking the anniversary of her ordeal, Smart expressed that the event serves as an ongoing testament to the fact that miracles occur, aspirations are realized, and there’s an abundance of goodness in this world. Essentially, she emphasized that life is worth living, dreams can be attained, and we should never lose hope.

She added, “No matter where you are at, I hope you find happiness.”
