Billie Lourd Honors Mom Carrie Fisher on Star Wars Day and Grieves Her Loss

Billie Lourd isn’t letting May the Fourth pass her by without giving her mom some love.

On May 4th, which is often referred to as “Star Wars Day” by enthusiasts of the sci-fi series, Billie decided to pay tribute to her late mother Carrie Fisher’s portrayal of Princess Leia. She and her husband Austen Rydell let their children, Kingston (age 3) and Jackson Joane (age 2), watch the original 1977 film.

And Billie wrote in the caption of her May 4 post, using emojis, “May the 4th”

Billie recently shared a heartwarming message, which follows only a few short months after she honored the eighth year since her mother passed away in 2016.

For eight long years now, the 32-year-old penned in a December entry, I’ve been without my mother. Just as my son would exclaim, ‘that’s a long time!’. Every year on this day, I can’t help but feel a sense of dread creeping up. And, more often than not, that foreboding anticipation is well-founded. This morning, I woke up with a heavy gloom hanging over me.

The former Scream Queen mentioned that her young children assisted her in dealing with her sorrow. Furthermore, she stated, “However, as soon as my children awoke, the gloomy cloud dispersed, leaving behind only radiant sunshine.

Nevertheless, the anniversary proved to be a challenging day for Billie, whom we could compare to someone experiencing a “tropical emotional storm.

She said, ‘It rains heavily throughout most of the day, yet during the breaks in the storms, the light is more radiant than on any cloudless day.’ She added, ‘Rainbows only appear when it’s raining. My sorrow has granted me a greater understanding and appreciation for life’s small, precious moments.’

Billie, the child shared by Carrie with her former partner Bryan Lourd, additionally highlighted that she continues to perceive her mother’s strength in her offspring.

Today, Billie expressed a mix of feelings, both sorrowful and thankful. She marveled at the enchantment her children exhibit, recognizing that they are extensions of her own magic. She experiences a myriad of emotions – sadness, happiness, yearning, wonder, emptiness, and fullness – all at once in an incredibly deep way.
