Robert De Niro to Guide Jenna Ortega in High-Stakes Pool Hustler Film!

In the upcoming movie titled “Shutout“, Robert De Niro will take on a mentoring role for Jenna Ortega. Known for his work on films such as “I Heart Huckabees” and “Silver Linings Playbook“, David O. Russell is set to helm the project.

According to its description, the movie is referred to as a “pool hustler drama”. Robert De Niro will portray Jake Kejeune, who is one of the last great pool hustlers. The synopsis continues: “Having squandered his skills and fortune in smoke-filled game rooms, Jake meets Mia (), a promising newcomer whose uncanny, captivating skill at pool rekindles a flame he thought had been snuffed out.

In this movie, Jake guides Mia, helping her hone her intuition, as they venture further into the realm of high-stakes pool games. They tread a fine line between incredible wealth and crushing defeats. The film hints at possible conflicts between De Niro’s character and Ortega’s characters. In essence, as Mia rises in fame and her ambition escalates, Jake faces a critical dilemma: will he lead her to greatness, or will her relentless pursuit of victory overshadow everything he has taught her?

The film titled “Shutout” was scripted by Alejandro Adams. Joe Roth from RK Films, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Mark Bomback are producing it. This production will be presented to foreign distributors at the 2025 Cannes Film Market. CAA Media Finance is responsible for managing the rights within the U.S.

Kirschenbaum expressed great excitement in a statement about collaborating with the esteemed director David O. Russell and the illustrious duo. He particularly looked forward to watching Jenna shine alongside these two cinematic legends. It’s an exceptional and exhilarating chance to aid such a talented group working together to narrate an engaging tale, he said, adding that this combination of talent feels like a long-awaited and ideal break.

De Niro & Russell Have Worked Together Before

Robert De Niro’s principal part in the movie “Shutout” won’t be their initial collaboration, as they had previously worked together on a film back in 2012. In this earlier project, De Niro portrayed Pat Sr., the father of the main character Pat Solatano, played by Bradley Cooper. This role garnered De Niro a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 2013 Academy Awards.

In the year 2013, the director and actor collaborated once more in the comedy titled “American Hustle,” a film inspired by the ABSCAM scandal of the ’70s. This production featured Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Jennifer Lawrence in leading roles. Interestingly, they had previously teamed up in 2015’s biographical comedy-drama film, “Joy,” where Jennifer Lawrence portrayed Joy Mangano, a self-made millionaire. Robert De Niro played Rudy Mangano, Joy’s father, in the same movie.
