Hytale offers more than just building, exploring, and combat in your main world. If you’re curious about what exists beyond the normal world, called Orbis, you can already get a glimpse! Even in early access, players can explore different dimensions and challenge some bosses. While not all dimensions are currently available, it’s a great preview of the content coming in future updates.
Unlocking the Ancient Gateway
To start traveling between dimensions, you first need to unlock the ancient gateway. This requires at least 100 memories, which will also give you the pieces needed to build a portal at the Arcanist’s workbench. Luckily, collecting 100 memories is quite achievable.
If you’re experimenting in creative mode, you can quickly unlock all content by typing the command /memories unlock all. In a standard survival world, first use the command /slop self to give yourself operator permissions, and then use /memories unlock all. After doing that, build an Arcanist’s workbench and craft an ancient gateway using cobblestone, thorium, essence of life, and essence of void.

To proceed, you’ll need a fragment key, and you can create three right away: one using cobalt ingots, one with adamant ingots, and one with thorium ingots. Each key unlocks a different dimension, offering a brief but exciting glimpse into the vast multiverse of Hytale.
First Stop: Windrider Valley
You’ll probably start your dimensional travels in Windrider Valley. It’s a relatively quick visit – you have only six minutes to explore. Sometimes you’ll even find a mage tower! After summoning the portal, you’ll enter a randomly created world filled with villages, treasure, and monsters. It’s designed for early-game players, so the enemies aren’t very strong, and you’ll mainly find iron tools, silver, and basic materials.
Exploring this area is enjoyable because most creatures are peaceful if you leave their things alone. While there isn’t much to find deep underground (only about 12 blocks down), the tall mountain peaks with buildings are where you’ll discover the best items. I’ve found chests containing valuable resources like thorium ingots, iron armor, silver ore, and leather. Plus, the outer islands with bedrock and water offer a unique way to explore, letting you float all the way to the bottom of the world.
Once the portal shuts down, you’ll be instantly transported back, costing you one fragment. Creating a new portal completely reshapes the world, generating fresh landscapes, mage towers, enemies, and improved rewards. This makes Windrider Valley ideal for playing alone, leveling up your character, or enjoying a cooperative treasure hunt with friends.
Next Up: Dragonspire Weald
Okay, so Dragonspire Weald is seriously cool – a bit more challenging and way more thrilling than the other dimensions! You’ve got seven minutes to explore, and the big draw is this massive, sleeping Frost Dragon! The landscape is amazing, with huge redwood trees, snowy fur logs everywhere, and even foxes running around. It feels really wild because enemies are out in the open, even during the day, and there are tons of caves to explore – I’ve found loads of iron, but watch out for snakes! Sometimes you even stumble upon a fox inside. It’s a really intense, beautiful place.
The frost dragon lives within a clearly defined ring of ice. Right now, it’s just a cool sight to look at and can’t be interacted with, but it’s easy to picture future updates allowing players to ride or fight it. With its combination of huge mountains, dense forests, and roaming enemies, Dragonspire Weald is one of the most immersive areas to discover early in the game.
Finally: The Dread Wade
Dread Wade is a gloomy, swamp-like area you can explore for seven minutes, followed by three minutes where dangerous void creatures appear. It’s filled with murky water and dangerous plants and animals, including tentacles and poisonous trees, and is dominated by a large tree stump. Currently, there aren’t many enemies, but if you stay until the portal closes, void creatures will spawn, giving you three minutes to collect void essence and Voidhearts.
Since there aren’t any caves, the massive tree stump immediately draws your attention. I suspect future updates will fill it with challenging enemies. Even now, Dread Wade has a distinct, unsettling atmosphere that makes it different from other areas, and it’s a good place to farm Voidhearts if you’re ready for a fight.
Exploring Beyond Early Access

Hytale currently uses one type of world creation for its main world (called V1). Other dimensions within the game offer a preview of a newer, improved world creation system (V2) that will be used for all future terrain. Eventually, Orbis and at least four more dimensions will be fully realized with this new system.
If you enjoy exploring in creative mode, the instances command lets you access different worlds, including older versions of Orbis. You can even visit a 2019 version featuring a single continent surrounded by ocean. This method gives you all the time you need to scout the world or simply appreciate Hytale’s design. Plus, there’s a yellow portal in the creative hub that takes you directly to the V2 Tundra area of Zone 3, which reminded me a lot of Whiterun from Skyrim.
Wrap-Up
Okay, so I’ve been playing Hytale even though it’s still in early access, and honestly, the different worlds are amazing! You’ve got chill villages in Windrider Valley, then you stumble upon this huge, sleeping frost dragon in Dragon Spire Weald – it’s wild. And Dread Wade? Super creepy swamp filled with this weird void stuff. The best part is, getting to these places is actually pretty easy and fun. It feels like they’re building towards something huge with all these dimensions, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Right now, you just need to collect some memories, build a portal, and jump in – you never know what you’ll find!
If you’re focused on gathering materials like Voidhearts as you play, I recommend checking out my guide, “How to Find Voidhearts in Hytale.” It details the best places to find them and how to get them quickly, so you can craft powerful weapons without a lot of frustration.
