Over the past few weeks following WrestleMania, I’ve grown accustomed to unexpected returns and debuts, and tonight’s Monday Night Raw didn’t disappoint! I was thrilled to witness the comeback of a former WWE Champion – none other than the Celtic Warrior himself, Sheamus. It’s been over 4 months since we last saw him in action, with his last appearance taking place on February 1st at the Royal Rumble. But tonight, Raw brought back the excitement of Fight Night, and there he was, facing off against Austin Theory! What a fantastic surprise!
Interestingly, it turned out that Theory wasn’t initially scheduled to face Sheamus in the match. This was hinted at in a backstage conversation between Grayson Waller and Raw General Manager Adam Pearce, prior to the bout. Eventually, Waller convinced Theory to take his place as the opponent, but when Theory asked who it would be against, Waller responded that it was best to keep it a secret.
Expressing it in a more casual and clear way: Theory was far from thrilled when they discovered that the secret adversary was indeed Sheamus, but he’s determined to turn lemons into lemonade. Theory had taken the first swing, but Sheamus quickly got his bearings and started landing uppercuts on Theory. Theory managed to dodge a charge and brought Sheamus down with a dropkick, but he grew overconfident too soon and was quickly knocked down with a clothesline.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t hide my excitement as I watched Sheamus unleash a brutal backbreaker on Theory, followed by another one for good measure. He then attempted a crippling cloverleaf, but Theory managed to reach the bottom rope and break free. With a desperate look, Theory rolled towards Waller, who seemed like he’d just thrown Theory to the wolves, giving off an air of guilt that was hard to miss.
In simpler terms, Sheamus endured some powerful kicks, followed by slamming Theory onto the mat. Although Theory recuperated swiftly, he was soon stunned by a fierce knee blow to the head. As Sheamus advanced towards Theory, Theory skillfully dodged, causing Sheamus to collide with the ring post instead. Later, Theory executed a blockbuster move and attempted a pin, but Sheamus miraculously survived.
In a turn of events, Sheamus leaped from the top rope to deliver a white noise blow to Theory. While Theory was arguing with Waller about why this happened, Sheamus performed 14 Beats of the Bodhran and mocked Waller from outside the ring. Subsequently, Sheamus prepared for the Brogue Kick, successfully landed it, followed by pinning his opponent to secure a victory in his triumphant comeback.
It appears that Sheamus seems prepared for another run in the main event, making us curious about who his initial significant rival will be. With Raw introducing some new personalities and possibly adding more as NXT call-ups are announced, it’s likely that Sheamus will have a new opponent soon.
Regarding Theory and Waller, this recent development may well be the final straw in their partnership, with Theory potentially growing tired of Waller’s controlling tactics and eventually turning against him. This twist has been building up for some time in WWE storylines, and it appears we are approaching the end of this particular narrative arc.
