The first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday sparked a lot of debate among fans. Others believed the teaser was intentionally misleading, similar to how some scenes featuring Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War didn’t actually make it into the final cut of the movie.
The Russo Brothers have suggested the recent glimpses aren’t traditional trailers, but rather clues and a story within themselves. This implies that scenes like Steve Rogers with a child, Thor seeking assistance, and the X-Men facing the Sentinels will be relevant to the plot of Avengers: Doomsday. It’s possible the movie will focus on the children of the original Avengers, rather than the Avengers themselves.
Steve Rogers is likely to be involved in future stories, and the filmmakers have confirmed he’ll have an important part to play. However, he probably won’t be Captain America – that role now belongs to Sam Wilson, who has earned it. Interestingly, in the comic books, an older Steve Rogers once led the Avengers from behind the scenes as a commander, and it’s possible he could take on a similar role with Sam Wilson’s new team.
It’s highly likely that Steve Rogers will be a key leader in uniting Earth’s heroes – including Sam Wilson’s Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Wakandans – against Doctor Doom. There’s even a chance his now-adult child will fight alongside him, helping to shape the future of the Avengers. According to the filmmakers, Steve Rogers will be central to the story, so fans can expect to see Chris Evans return in Avengers: Doomsday this year.
