Despite Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, perishing in the film “Captain America: Civil War”, she has persisted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by portraying alternate versions of her iconic character. Among these, Captain Carter stands out as the most powerful, with one variant being a significant figure in the subscription-only Disney+ series “What If… ?“, and another making a brief appearance in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“. There are whispers that Atwell will reprise her role in next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday“, and TopMob took the opportunity to discuss this possibility during an interview with her.
Currently, Atwell is doing media interviews for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Our very own Jeff McCobb got to chat with her, discussing the 2025 release of this film. He also asked questions regarding the “Doomsday” speculations surrounding her role in the upcoming Marvel movie. Here’s what she shared about it:
I’d jump at the chance to return to play that role again. It was truly special and played a significant part in my journey as an actor. There’s still so much potential for growth with this character, given how much I’ve evolved since then. In essence, if they invite me back, I’m more than ready to step into the role once more. However, I must clarify that I currently have no other news or offers.
Jeff brought up the topic when he pointed out that Hayley Atwell’s name wasn’t on the chairs during the major Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal in March. If we believe Atwell, then rumors about her role are likely overstated, but she is open to reprising any version of Peggy Carter again. However, Marvel is careful to keep spoilers under wraps, and it’s not unheard of for actors to deny their involvement in an MCU project.
I’m not going to assume it’s the latter just yet, but I’m also not completely ruling out there’s a chance we could see Hayley Atwell appear in Avengers: Doomsday, even it it’s just a cameo. For now, watch how she responded to Jeff McCobb for yourself:

It’s worth noting that “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” mark the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga. Since these films are expected to feature variations of characters already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s speculation about Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Given Hayley Atwell’s long-standing role in this franchise since “Captain America: The First Avenger,” it seems like a missed opportunity not to showcase her in one or more of these upcoming films, possibly as another version of Peggy Carter from a different part of the multiverse.
We’ll discover for sure whether Hayley Atwell is involved in Avengers: Doomsday when it comes out on May 1, 2026. I can only hope that if Peggy Carter appears again, the actress will be happier with her role compared to how things turned out for her in Doctor Strange 2.
