Scarlett Johansson Breaks Silence on Bill Murray’s ‘Humbled’ Apology After Misconduct Scandal

In a recent development, Scarlett Johansson has spoken up in support of her former co-star Bill Murray, whom she worked with in the 2003 film “Lost in Translation”, defending him against past allegations of misconduct.

In an extensive conversation with, Johansson expressed her conviction that Murray had undergone a transformation in his behavior. Regrettably, both the film “Being Mortal” and Murray himself were terminated when it was discovered that he had inappropriately straddled a female crew member while kissing her through her COVID mask.

Johansson stated to Vanity Fair, “He’s transformed into an entirely new individual.” She added, “I believe life has taught him humility.” When asked if she was referring to the misconduct, she affirmed, “Indeed, yes – it was truly reprehensible.” Further, she explained, “Not just the misconduct, but also the challenges posed by COVID-19 have contributed to his being held accountable for such behavior.

Following that, the interviewer added thoughtfully, “However, isn’t it amazing how individuals can transform themselves?” And yes, he does have a reputation for being challenging to collaborate with.

After making this comment, the interviewer pondered, “But isn’t it great that people can change and grow?” And I must admit, he has a notoriety for being tough to work alongside.

Lastly, here’s another option: The interviewer then remarked contemplatively, “You know what? It’s amazing how people can evolve.” And it’s true, he does have a reputation for being hard to work with.

Murray himself had previously mentioned the “kissing” incident from earlier this year. He explained, “I can’t pinpoint exactly why I did it, but I had done something similar to someone else before and found it amusing. Every time it happened, it was funny for me.” He also seemed to imply that the other person was overreacting, saying, “However, I was disappointed because I thought I knew this person, and I didn’t. I saw it as light-hearted. I found it amusing. To me, even now, the idea of giving someone a kiss with a mask on still seems funny. It still seems silly. It was nothing more than that.

Bill Murray Wasn’t Great To Work With On Lost In Translation Either

In one specific instance, she had suggested that Murray’s demeanor wasn’t always friendly during filming, and this was particularly noticeable in one scene. According to her, this specific scene lost some of its intended intimacy due to his roughness. In an interview with in 2013, she expressed, “The scene where [Bill and Scarlett] are lying in bed talking while the TV is on, it was supposed to be very intimate. However, something wasn’t right during that day. I’m not sure if they were just in a bad mood, but they didn’t seem to be getting along well.

Johansson also stated in her Vanity Fair interview that dealing with Murray was challenging. She described the situation as everyone being on edge around him, even the director and the entire crew, since he was navigating his personal issues. Over time, it’s been reported that several individuals, such as Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu, and Richard Dreyfuss, have had conflicts with Murray on film sets.
