Far Cry 3 Classic Edition Gets 60 FPS Support for Consoles on January 21st

I’m so excited! Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is finally getting a big upgrade! When it came out in 2018 for Xbox One and PS4, it was limited to 30 frames per second, but a new patch coming out on January 21st will unlock 60 FPS on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S. Hopefully, they’ll bring that smoother experience to those of us still playing on older consoles too, but we’ll have to wait and see.

But that’s not all! In addition to Far Cry 3 getting updates, Ubisoft also hinted at updates for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal. The official Far Cry Twitter account confirmed these updates are in the works, though release dates for Blood Dragon and Primal haven’t been announced yet. Far Cry 4 and Far Cry New Dawn were the most recent games in the series to receive a 60 FPS update on current-generation consoles.

Games like Tom Clancy’s The Division have also seen similar success. But while The Division is getting new updates and a third game is in the works, Far Cry hasn’t had a new release since Far Cry 6 in 2021.

There’s been talk about the next Far Cry game, and it’s rumored to let players experience the story in a more open, non-linear way. Originally planned for release in Fall 2025, the game has reportedly been delayed and is now aiming for a 2026 or 2027 launch. In addition, Ubisoft is also supposedly developing a separate spin-off game focused on the extraction shooter genre.
