5 Fan-Favorite Star Trek Characters Who Still Need Their Own Spinoff Series

From the beginning, Star Trek has focused on the team dynamic of each starship’s crew. While the original series had a legendary crew, The Next Generation came very close to matching it, and even surpassed it in some ways. So, it wasn’t shocking when the first spin-off series centered on a single character from those classic crews featured Jean-Luc Picard. This naturally led fans to speculate about which other Star Trek character might get their own show.

Now that Star Trek: Picard has finished, here are five other Star Trek characters we’d love to see get their own TV show.

5) Harry Kim

Harry Kim, played by Garrett Wang on Star Trek: Voyager, is a character who never really got the spotlight, despite being a part of the show from beginning to end. He started as an Ensign and remained an Ensign throughout the series. While he initially seemed destined for a promising career, that potential stalled when the Voyager became stranded in the Delta Quadrant.

The situation was made worse by Kim’s death and replacement with a copy. Harry Kim is a character who truly deserves more recognition, and it would be fantastic to see him return – even if he’s still working his way up the ranks as an Ensign. A spin-off series focusing on Captain Kim finally realizing his ambitions would be a bold and exciting move for the franchise.

4) Benjamin Sisko

Benjamin Sisko, the captain from Deep Space Nine, is a character perfectly suited for his own show. The series ended with him seemingly joining the Prophets, but also with a hint that he’d one day return to his family. A spinoff series could finally explore that return and fulfill that promise.

While Sisko reappeared in Star Trek comic books, the television series have taken a different path. There’s speculation his story might be revisited in the upcoming Starfleet Academy show, but a dedicated spinoff series focused on Captain Sisko would be the ideal way to bring him back.

3) Captain Janeway

As discussions about a potential solo series for Captain Picard gained momentum, the possibility of another Starfleet captain leading her own show also started to emerge. That captain was Janeway, famously portrayed by Kate Mulgrew in Star Trek: Voyager. Her significant role in the Prodigy series further fueled fan interest in seeing Janeway return in a new solo adventure.

Kate Mulgrew is enthusiastic about returning to Star Trek in her own spinoff series, but she’s clear about what she wants: a hopeful show that still allows for adventure and risk. She doesn’t want it to resemble Star Trek: Picard. Given her successful role in Prodigy, fans would be thrilled to see Janeway leading her own series again.

2) Worf

Worf, played by Michael Dorn, is a Star Trek character ripe for his own spinoff series. He was a key figure in both The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine (the first season of which is considered a highlight of the entire franchise). A series focusing on Worf could powerfully explore his unique position as a Klingon serving in Starfleet, a man caught between two cultures.

This opens up many potential stories for Woff, imagining he’d advanced in Starfleet. He could face challenges with the Klingons and grapple with his place within the organization. There are endless possibilities, and because the character relies heavily on prosthetics, revisiting his past wouldn’t present any major acting hurdles for a potential Star Trek spin-off.

1) Seven of Nine

It’s disappointing, but the ideal Star Trek spinoff would likely center on Seven of Nine. She’s arguably the most deserving character in the entire franchise to lead her own series. Unfortunately, Jeri Ryan, the actress who played her, has already declined the opportunity to reprise the role after Picard, feeling it wasn’t the right fit.

Despite this, Ryan remained open to returning as Seven of Nine, but only if it was a continuation of the original series—the kind she and the fans felt the character deserved. She did reprise the role in Picard, but she’s very selective about future projects. Unless she receives a proposal that properly honors the character, a full-fledged Star Trek spinoff remains unlikely.
