5 Great DC Supervillain Teams Nobody Talks About

DC Comics is famous for its superheroes constantly battling and defeating villains. Over the years, these villains realized fighting powerful heroes alone wasn’t working, so they began forming teams to increase their chances. While groups like the Legion of Doom and the Crime Syndicate are well-known, many other dangerous villain alliances exist within the DC Universe. Though they might not be as famous, these lesser-known teams often feature compelling stories and rosters packed with some of DC’s most recognizable bad guys.

These often-overlooked groups of DC villains – whether they’re aiming to take over the world or just defeat one hero – deserve more attention.

5) Legion of Zoom

Although the Rogues are well-known as the Flash’s enemies, the Legion of Zoom was a much larger threat – a full-scale army of almost every villain the Flash has ever faced. The Reverse-Flash created this team by traveling through time and gathering the strongest versions of various Flash foes. The core group included Gorilla Grodd, the Turtle, Captain Cold, Golden Glider, and the Trickster. To really torment the Flash, Thawne also brainwashed and recruited his future children, the Tornado Twins. He further bolstered his Legion with over a dozen other Flash villains like Girder, Top, Bloodwork, Abra Kadabra, and the Thinker. It took the combined strength of the entire Flash Family to finally defeat this incredibly powerful team.

4) Hyperclan

The Hyperclan first appeared in a popular Justice League story called “New World Order,” and initially seemed like a new team of alien heroes come to protect Earth. Their leader, Protex, was very charismatic, and people welcomed them as saviors. However, it was quickly discovered that the Hyperclan were actually White Martians in disguise, secretly preparing Earth for an alien invasion. These White Martians are incredibly powerful, possessing abilities like super strength, flight, telepathy, shapeshifting, and heat vision. Although they haven’t appeared often since their first story, the Hyperclan were important because they introduced the concept of White Martians to DC Comics, significantly expanding the history and lore of Martian Manhunter.

3) Monster Society of Evil

The Monsters Society of Evil was the very first team of supervillains ever created in comic books. This powerful group was formed by Captain Marvel’s (later known as Shazam) most formidable and unusual enemies. The team’s creator and leader is Mr. Mind, a tiny alien worm with incredible intelligence and the ability to read minds. Over time, almost every villain Shazam fought joined the Society, including well-known names like Black Adam, Dr. Sivana, and King Kull. Their debut was also one of the earliest examples of a continuing story arc in comics. Although some members might seem silly now, their influence on the world of comic books remains significant.

2) Superman Revenge Squad

Superman is famously powerful, so his enemies often join forces to try and defeat him. The Superman Revenge Squad is a group of villains, both from Earth and beyond, who all have a personal reason to target Superman. This team has existed in different forms throughout Superman’s history, even when he was still Superboy. Figures like Morgan Edge, Lex Luthor, and Hank Henshaw have each created their own versions of the squad. The most dangerous version, appearing during the Rebirth storyline, included incredibly powerful villains like General Zod, Lex Luthor, Cyborg Superman, Eradicator, Mongul, Metallo, and Parasite. Essentially, the Superman Revenge Squad is a ruthless alliance of Superman’s greatest enemies and stands as one of the most formidable teams in the DC Universe.

1) Fearsome Five

The Fearsome Five, once prominent enemies of the Teen Titans, haven’t gotten the attention they deserve lately. Led by the mind-reading Psimon, the team also includes the powerful Mammoth, the inventive Gizmo, the magically-inclined Jinx, and Shimmer, who can control matter. Despite having powers that complement each other well, the Five are constantly undermined by their own internal conflicts – they’re all villains, after all! Nevertheless, they consistently unite to battle the Teen Titans. DC Comics should really bring them back as a major threat and showcase just how dangerous they are.
