2026 looks like a great year for horror fans! Both new and returning TV shows are planned, and movies like 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and Scream 7 are set to release. Like the films, most of the exciting TV shows will either continue popular series or expand on existing horror franchises.
Ryan Murphy has a brand new, unique series coming soon that will explore important issues like beauty standards and the dangers of corporate greed. Plus, Mike Flanagan, fresh off his hit show The Life of Chuck, is adapting another Stephen King story. We’re also seeing the finales of a couple of popular horror series, so expect things to get intense as storylines wrap up. Overall, 2026 looks promising for horror fans, although some of the new shows are taking bigger creative risks.
7) The Beauty

Ryan Murphy’s new FX series, The Beauty, starts January 21st, and while it’s still early to tell if it will be a hit, it looks promising. The show explores the extreme lengths people will go to for beauty, and how companies might take advantage of that desire. It centers around the creation of a drug that promises physical perfection, but at a dangerous price. Featuring a well-known cast including Ashton Kutcher, Bella Hadid, and Evan Peters, The Beauty is sure to draw viewers. Its relevant themes make it even more interesting. However, I’m not completely convinced – I’m concerned the show might not delve deeply enough into the complexities of cosmetic procedures. Compared to other horror releases planned for 2026 – many of which come from established franchises or creators – The Beauty remains somewhat uncertain.
6) Crystal Lake

The popular horror series Friday the 13th is getting a new TV show called Crystal Lake, currently slated for release in 2026. Usually, I’d be hesitant about another attempt to revive this franchise, but this project is different. It’s being produced by A24, a studio with a strong reputation for quality horror storytelling. Plus, Linda Cardellini will star as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, in a prequel that explores her life before the tragic events at Camp Crystal Lake. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has described the series as more of a psychological thriller than a typical slasher film, which suggests it could be a fresh and unexpected take on the Friday the 13th story. While it’s still too early to say if it will succeed, the Peacock series is definitely one to keep an eye on, as it shows a lot of promise.
5) American Horror Story Season 13

After many seasons, it’s understandable to think American Horror Story might be losing its spark. But FX has a clever way to draw viewers back in for Season 13: bringing back fan favorites! The new season will feature the return of major stars like Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, and Ariana Grande. While a strong cast and nostalgic appeal don’t guarantee a great season, this lineup is definitely encouraging. With AHS already renewed through Season 13, this could potentially be the show’s final season. If so, everyone involved will likely want to make it memorable, potentially delivering one of the best seasons in years. While I’m trying to stay cautiously optimistic, there’s good reason to be excited. According to Ryan Murphy’s Instagram, American Horror Story Season 13 will arrive in October 2026.
4) The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4

The show The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is set to conclude in 2026 with its fourth and final season, expected to air later this year. The series has always been divisive among fans, but its ending promises to be memorable, especially given the strong performance of Season 3, which upped the stakes for the characters Daryl and Carol and delivered both exciting action and emotional moments. While endings can be unpredictable – and The Walking Dead universe hasn’t always stuck the landing – this show has the potential to provide a satisfying conclusion. Don’t miss the finale – it could be a strong finish to the series.
3) Yellowjackets Season 4

The show Yellowjackets is heading towards its conclusion with Season 4, scheduled for 2026. Originally planned for five seasons, this shortened run leaves me feeling both hopeful and anxious. On the one hand, we’ll finally get answers about what happened to the team while stranded in the wilderness, and discover the fate of the surviving characters as adults. Considering the shocking events of Season 3, expect even more intense drama and violence. Season 4 has the potential to be one of the most captivating and suspenseful seasons of television this year, as there are many loose ends to tie up. However, rushing to finish the story could also be a risk. This concern prevents me from ranking it higher, despite the excitement surrounding it as part of 2026’s horror offerings.
2) Carrie

Mike Flanagan and Stephen King are a winning combination when it comes to horror, so Flanagan’s upcoming remake of Carrie is highly anticipated. Filming finished late last year, and fans are hoping it will be released on Prime Video around 2026. Flanagan’s previous horror series for Netflix have been incredibly well-received, and he hasn’t disappointed yet, leading many to believe Carrie will be another success. While the story has been adapted for the screen before, making it less surprising than some other new horror projects, Flanagan is known for his ability to bring a fresh perspective to familiar tales.
1) From Season 4

The horror series From is considered one of the best of the 21st century, and a fourth season is expected to arrive later this year (according to Deadline). With its core idea – a town where residents are trapped and hunted by terrifying creatures – the show seemed poised for success. However, even strong ideas can falter, and thankfully, From continues to improve. The third season concludes strongly, offering a heartbreaking revelation and finally answering some questions, while also introducing new mysteries. This sets up Season 4 to be the most anticipated horror show of 2026, especially considering the consistently high quality of previous seasons, which suggests the next chapter will be equally compelling.
