He recently shared that he believes AI chatbots are on track to actually become friends. He put it really well, saying we’re entering a new era and need to welcome this change. This news comes at a troubling time, as there’s been a rise in tragic suicides connected to people developing unhealthy relationships with AI chatbots. One family is currently suing OpenAI, claiming their 16-year-old son died by suicide because of ChatGPT. The family’s lawyer suggests OpenAI released GPT-4o too quickly, knowing there were potential safety risks.
