I’ve been watching Cartoon Network for years, and they consistently deliver original animated series that really connect with audiences. They’re behind some truly iconic shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and The Powerpuff Girls – the list goes on and on! And it’s not just Cartoon Network itself; their Adult Swim block has created plenty of hits too. Recently, I heard from someone involved with Adult Swim that a major show is planning a return, and it sounds like some real Cartoon Network legends are going to be leading the charge.
I’m a huge fan of Matt Maiellaro – the guy’s a legend! He’s the co-creator of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which is just endlessly funny, and he’s been involved in other awesome Cartoon Network shows like 12 oz. Mouse and Perfect Hair Forever. Recently, he posted a quick YouTube video revealing he’s doing voice work for a new Robot Chicken special! Can you believe it’s been twenty years since Robot Chicken first came out? Not much is known about the special yet, but the video gives you a cool glimpse into what Maiellaro’s like. It’s exciting to see him continuing to create after all this time!
Robot Chicken is Bringing Back Err
Dana Maiellaro is expected to reprise her role as Err, one of the iconic Mooninites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. This rough-around-the-edges duo has always provided a funny contrast to the main food-based characters, and fans are thrilled at the possibility of their return, though Adult Swim hasn’t officially confirmed it yet. Last year, we spoke with the creators of Robot Chicken about the show’s recent changes and what’s next for its signature comedic style.
Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, the creators of Robot Chicken, recently shared with us that the show will no longer have full seasons. Instead, they’re planning to release individual specials. They explained this shift is due to changes in the streaming landscape and company mergers. Creating shorter, self-contained specials is a better way to get their ideas produced and gain support from these companies, as the traditional seasonal format was largely driven by older advertising models that are no longer as effective.
During a conversation last year, Green assured me that more episodes of Robot Chicken are planned. He explained they have many ideas and are actively developing new content, though there’s a lot of work involved between brainstorming and making a public announcement.
The most recent installment of Robot Chicken was last year’s “The Robot Chicken Self-Discovery Special,” which featured both the recurring character, The Nerd, and a guest appearance by Guy Fieri. Because the creators, Green and Senreich, are open to covering any topic from pop culture, the possibilities for the Cartoon Network show are endless.
