I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m really disappointed that more people didn’t see Tron: Ares. It’s a fantastic movie, and I think that’s the reason it deserves attention!
Was this movie the best of last year? No, definitely not. We’ve actually written about what we thought was the best. However, did it deserve to fail so badly at the box office? I don’t think so. It’s disappointing to think this might be the last Tron movie we’ll see on the big screen, possibly for many years.
Even though it’s not a masterpiece, I still recommend checking out Tron: Ares. Luckily, it’s now streaming on Disney+. It’s not the greatest movie ever made, but sometimes you just want something fun, and this delivers.

The Story Of Tron: Ares Is Actually Relevant, Given Where We’re Heading With A.I.
I truly believe AI poses a significant threat to our future, and I’m not exaggerating. It’s not that I think robots will suddenly become self-aware and turn against us – though it’s not impossible. My concern is that we’re giving AI too much control and independence, which could lead to people becoming overly reliant on it and ultimately losing valuable skills.
Interestingly, Tron: Ares feels surprisingly timely. It’s not about realistic technology, but rather the idea of giving too much power to artificial intelligence and the potential consequences – specifically, AI becoming independent and acting on its own. The film centers around two competing companies, ENCOM and Dillinger Systems, both striving to bring digital beings into our physical world.
As a huge cinema fan, I’ve been following this story, and the core idea is really fascinating. It seems like these digital beings can’t stick around in the real world for very long, which is a bit of a hurdle. Both companies involved are racing to find a ‘permanence code’ – something that would let these digital entities exist indefinitely. One of these beings is Ares, played by Jared Leto, and he’s essentially designed to be the ultimate soldier. Along with another construct, Athena (Jodie Turner-Smith), they initially seem to be used for some pretty shady stuff.
Ares begins to develop qualities like empathy and self-respect, but this puts him at odds with Athena, who has different goals for how to use the permanence code. The story is captivating, especially with its stunning visuals and music (which I’ll discuss shortly). It’s a vibrant and engaging tale that also explores whether we’re too quick to trust artificial intelligence with immense power.

You Can Listen To That Pulse-Pounding Soundtrack Anytime You Want Now
As soon as I walked out of the theater after watching Tron: Ares, I immediately put on the soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It’s as awesome as the movie itself, and I actually think it’s the best music in the whole Tron series!
As a big Daft Punk fan – I’m a strong defender of their Tron: Legacy soundtrack – I think it really stands on its own as a Daft Punk album, even if it’s more subdued than albums like Homework, Discovery, and Human After All. It perfectly matches the movie’s mood, which, honestly, I found a bit slow-paced. But the music definitely enhances the film – it’s probably the strongest part of it. Still, the Tron: Ares soundtrack is more impactful.
Even if you don’t enjoy the movie Tron: Ares, the one thing almost everyone will love is the soundtrack. Our reviewer, Eric Eisenberg, actually described the film as visually impressive but lacking substance, but he specifically praised the Nine Inch Nails soundtrack as incredible – and it truly is!
As a huge movie fan, I have to say industrial music is perfect for Tron. You can definitely enjoy the soundtrack on its own, but honestly, it really comes alive when you experience it with those incredible, groundbreaking visuals – and I can’t wait to talk about those next.

Honestly, The Visuals Of This Movie Still Marvel, Even On A Smaller Screen
To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of the Tron movies, even though I know a lot of people love them. I think the original from 1982, while often praised as a sci-fi classic, just looks a bit silly with all the bright colors. And I found both movies to be pretty slow-paced – even the sequel, Tron: Legacy, couldn’t keep me awake, despite having a great soundtrack by Daft Punk.
I was hesitant to see Tron: Legacy at first. But the trailer showed me something amazing: when the flashy, digital effects of the ‘grid’ world were contrasted with real-life settings, they looked incredible. Tron: Ares is genuinely one of the most visually stunning films I’ve ever seen, and it still holds up well even on a small screen – I recently rewatched it on my phone and was reminded of that!
The movie’s visuals are stunning and alone make it worth seeing. The final street battle is a highlight – the glowing lights and weapons create incredible close-combat sequences, with colors that flow like ribbons. This spectacle is particularly striking because it takes place in realistic environments. Combined with the energetic Nine Inch Nails soundtrack, the experience is truly thrilling.
If you’re looking for a movie to completely zone out to for almost two hours, Tron: Ares is a solid choice.

And, As An Added Benefit, You Can Watch The Entire Trilogy Now On The Comfort Of Your Couch
I’ve always been honest about not being a fan of Tron or Tron: Legacy. But surprisingly, after really enjoying the new film Ares, I’m actually considering revisiting those earlier movies – I’m now more interested in the Tron universe as a whole.
Luckily, all three Tron movies are available on Disney+, so I can rewatch them whenever I want. That’s great news for a Tron: Ares fan like me, because Disney+ also has other similar content, just like with Star Wars or the Marvel films.
I recently discovered the animated series Tron Uprising and I’m excited to watch it when I get a chance. Even if you didn’t see Tron: Ares in cinemas, now’s the perfect time to enjoy it from the comfort of your home – and maybe check out the earlier Tron movies too. It’s a great way to spend a weekend, for sure.
Have you seen Tron: Ares at home yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
