Derek Hough and Wife Hayley Reveal Meaning Behind Baby Girl’s Name

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert danced around choosing a baby name for a long time. 

Oh my gosh, you guys, I’m still reeling! They finally revealed her name – Everley Capri! It’s just… perfect! Apparently, they put so much thought into it, trying to find something that felt just right. I’ve been obsessively checking for any news since December 29th when little Everley arrived, and finally knowing the story behind the name? It’s everything! I’m completely in love with it, and with them, of course!

Hayley recently shared with People magazine that she’d been following Everley for a long time. She explained that she came across a post saying it was amazing to see someone’s name in their notes app for years and then meet them in person. Hayley said it perfectly captured how she felt – she’d been noting Everley’s name for a while before they connected.

Derek, who is 40, remembers it took nearly a week after Everley’s birth to decide on the name. The name’s meaning was a key factor in their final choice.

Interestingly, in numerology, the name Everley adds up to the master number 11, which is considered very meaningful for the couple as they begin their parenting journey.

Hayley explained that Everley was born eleven days after her due date, October 11th. She said they instantly felt Everley was the right baby for them, saying, ‘This is it!’

Derek remembered the Everley landing similarly, saying it was interesting to discover the meaning behind the name, even if you don’t typically believe in numerology.

Honestly, when we really started to understand what it meant, it just clicked. It was beautiful, and we all instantly connected with it. It wasn’t about logic, it was just a feeling – a really good one. It felt completely right.

The couple, who got married in 2023, also chose a meaningful spelling for their daughter’s name. Derek explained they intentionally used the same last three letters as Hayley’s name.

“It’s very intentional,” he emphasized, “the way we spelled it.” 

They chose the name Capri as Everley’s middle name because it felt like the perfect fit. Derek described it as adding a little bit of personality to her name.

Hayley, 31, agreed, saying they were thrilled when they decided to include Capri, thinking it was a perfect fit.

Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert first met in 2014 while performing together on a tour with Derek and his sister, Julianne Hough. A producer from Dancing With the Stars was impressed with Hayley and invited her to audition for the show’s dance ensemble, which she joined the following year, as reported by the Hutchinson News. Hayley and Derek began dating in 2015.

They started attending events together, even appearing at the 2016 premiere of the Netflix documentary I Am Not Your Guru, featuring Tony Robbins.

The couple is expecting their first child! They shared the exciting news on Instagram with a video of their baby’s sonogram. Hayley expressed their joy, saying they were amazed that something so wonderful could be so tiny.
