If you don’t play PC games often, you might feel like you’re missing out on cool new indie titles. Many independent and early-access games launch on platforms like Steam first, and sometimes they never come to consoles. While it’s frustrating to wait, it does give console players the benefit of seeing what’s good based on PC reviews. For the Souls-like deckbuilder Death Howl, those reviews are very positive, which makes its recently announced console release date even more exciting.
I first jumped into Death Howl when it launched on Steam back in December 2025, and it quickly became a favorite. It’s still sitting pretty with a ‘Very Positive’ rating and an 82 on Metacritic, which is awesome. There are a lot of deckbuilders out there, but this one really stands out because it mixes in some seriously cool, challenging combat that reminds me of a Souls-like game. Now, the good news for console players: it’s finally coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch on February 19th! And if you’re an Xbox gamer, you’ll be happy to hear it’s hitting Game Pass too.
Death Howl To Bring Complex Strategy Deckbuilding to Consoles this February

Death Howl, a new deckbuilder from The Outer Zone and 11 bit studios, offers a unique and atmospheric experience. The game features a dark, 2D art style and follows Ro, a hunter on a desperate quest to save her son. Players will explore the Spirit World, journeying through 4 realms and 13 regions filled with over 30 enemy types and 160+ cards to build a powerful strategy.
Death Howl provides over 25 hours of strategic gameplay, featuring difficult boss fights and interesting side quests. Combat takes place on a grid, adding a deeper level of tactics as you build and customize your card deck. With a wide range of cards to choose from, you can experiment with different approaches – whether it’s building up your strength, using poison, or focusing on defense. Check out the new trailer below to get a feel for the game’s art style and how it plays.
Players on PC are really enjoying the game’s huge variety of cards and the strategic thinking it requires. It’s a great deckbuilder because it constantly encourages you to experiment with new card combinations and approaches. Unlike many similar games, Death Howl also offers a compelling story, which players on Steam have been highlighting.
If you’re a fan of deckbuilding games like Balatro or Slay the Spire, Death Howl looks like a fantastic addition to your console wishlist. It comes to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on February 19th, and is available on PC via Steam right now for $19.99. You can also try a free demo before purchasing.
