2 Years Later, Prime Video’s 10/10 Sci-Fi Fantasy Masterpiece Can Only Get Better

Prime Video is a major streaming service with a large and growing collection of original shows. One series, a thrilling blend of science fiction and fantasy, is particularly promising, and its first season suggests even greater things to come.

Lately, I’ve been really into sci-fi and fantasy shows on streaming services. It’s because they’re finally giving these genres the big budgets they deserve, so we’re getting these amazing, cinematic experiences every week. I was thrilled when I discovered a Prime Video series that blends both sci-fi and fantasy, and honestly, I think it has the potential to be even more incredible.

Secret Level Is A Sci-Fi/Fantasy Masterpiece That Could Improve One Aspect

Season one of Secret Level premiered on December 10, 2024. This 15-episode series, a sci-fi/fantasy show, offers Prime Video’s take on the animated anthology format popularized by Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots. Created by Tim Miller, Secret Level distinguishes itself by focusing on different video games in each episode, making it a particularly appealing watch for gamers.

The Prime Video series Secret Level includes characters and stories from popular games like Mega Man, God of War, Pac-Man, and Warhammer 40,000, among others. While the first season was generally well-received, there’s room for improvement. Critics gave it a score of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, while viewers rated it slightly higher at 71%.

The animated series Secret Level had a record-breaking debut on Prime Video, leading to its renewal for a second season. While the release date for season 2 is still unknown, Prime Video will soon be releasing more shows based on video games. For Secret Level to continue growing in popularity, it needs to receive better reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now that the first season is over, Secret Level has a lot of potential to improve. It had the difficult job of introducing the video game anthology concept with a limited number of well-known games. With that groundwork established, future seasons can expand and build on what’s already been done. The show’s initial success should also help Prime Video attract even more popular game franchises for upcoming episodes.

Many episodes of the show previously felt like they were just action scenes, but now the creators have a better understanding of what resonates with audiences and what doesn’t. The team behind the show, called Secret Level, has a clear plan for improvement, and they’re optimistic based on the success of Love Death + Robots. The show’s critic score on Rotten Tomatoes has consistently increased over the years—from 77% to 82% and then to a perfect 100% for two seasons in a row—and Secret Level expects to see a similar positive trend.
