Charlie Puth is a sentimental man when it comes to Wicked: For Good.
Wiz Khalifa publicly supported Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo after neither actress received an Oscar nomination when the nominees were revealed on January 22nd.
Charlie expressed disappointment on X (formerly Twitter) that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo weren’t nominated for their work in Wicked. While admitting he doesn’t often watch movies, he felt their exceptional musical talent deserved recognition.
Besides Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo not receiving nominations, the movie Wicked: For Good didn’t earn any Oscar nominations at all. It wasn’t considered for Best Picture, and neither of its original songs – “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” – were nominated either.
Although the movie wasn’t nominated for any Oscars, both Cynthia and Ariana received critical acclaim for their roles. Cynthia was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing Elphaba, and Ariana earned Golden Globe and Actor Award nominations for her portrayal of Glinda. The Actor Awards will take place on March 1st.
Cynthia and Ariana both received Oscar nominations last year: Cynthia for Best Actress and Ariana for Best Supporting Actress. The first Wicked movie earned a total of 10 nominations, including one for Best Picture, and won awards for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Ariana and Cynthia are just floored by all the love they’ve been getting, but honestly, they’re mostly just feeling this incredible wave of thankfulness now that their time telling the story of Wicked is coming to an end. It’s like, they’re so grateful it’s been amazing, but also a little sad it’s over, you know? It’s just…everything!

Ariana recently told TopMob News that working with her close collaborators has been a wonderful experience. She especially appreciates their talent and kindness, saying it’s been amazing to create with people she both loves and deeply respects.
The actress, 32, said she can’t wait for audiences to learn everything about Elphaba and Glinda, and to see the complete journey of these beloved characters after all this time.
She went on to say that they’ve been working with these people for nearly five years. It’s really exciting now that they’re finally learning everything we already knew – all the hidden details.
