Game Freak, the developer of Pokémon, recently showed off Beast of Reincarnation, which looked promising. However, given the visual and performance issues in past Pokémon games on the Nintendo Switch, it’s understandable to wonder about the new game’s technical performance. Director Kota Furushima has assured fans that the team is focused on delivering a polished experience, prioritizing gameplay, visuals, bug fixes, and optimization. He told IGN that the gameplay experience is their main goal.
Before the Xbox Developer_Direct 2026, Furushima explained that with Beast of Reincarnation – a very ambitious game – their design focus isn’t simply on creating a game of a particular quality. They’re aiming for something much larger in scope.
Our main goal is to create a particular kind of gameplay experience, and everything else – the graphics, how well the game runs, even fixing bugs – supports that goal. We want to deliver our vision to players and ensure they have a great time, so we prioritize gameplay and making sure it performs smoothly. While performance is important, we’re ultimately focused on the overall experience and connecting with players.
Game Freak, the developer of the Pokémon series, has often faced criticism for the graphics and technical performance of its games, a pattern that began with Pokémon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch. People jokingly compared the trees in those games to those in the Nintendo 64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Despite these technical shortcomings, the games have consistently offered enjoyable gameplay and continue to be very popular with players.
During a recent presentation, the developers shared a lot of information about Beast of Reincarnation, including details about how the game is played, its characters, the game world, and the story. A key theme of the game is plants. Players will control Emma, a Sealer tasked with defeating massive beasts corrupted by a plant-like parasite called the Blight, which are known as Malefacts. She’s joined by Koo, a wolf-like Malefact, who assists in battles with his unique skills. The game is set in the year 4062, in a world where nature has taken over and reclaimed both the land and its technology.
The recent gameplay reveal showed that Beast of Reincarnation will offer diverse playstyles. Players can unlock new abilities for Emma and Koo using a skill tree, and customize weapons to further tailor their approach to combat.
The action RPG Beast of Reincarnation will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in Summer 2026. Players on PC and Xbox will be able to play the game immediately through Xbox Game Pass.
