Beast of Reincarnation is Being Made by a Small Team at Game Freak Working With Partner Companies

Game Freak is famous for creating the Pokemon games, but they’ve also made smaller games like Pocket Card Jockey. Their new game, Beast of Reincarnation, appears to be a significantly bigger project than anything they’ve done outside of Pokemon. In an interview with IGN, director Kito Furushima revealed that Game Freak is collaborating with other development teams to bring this game to life.

Although the core team at Game Freak developing Beast of Reincarnation is small, the project as a whole involves a much larger team. To bring their vision for the new action RPG to life, the studio collaborated with several partner companies.

As you’d expect, the development team is quite big, but it’s not just people who work directly at Game Freak. We collaborated with many external partner companies and studios who helped bring our vision for the game to life, so we’re fortunate to have so much outside support.

Furushima revealed that the idea for Beast of Reincarnation originated from Game Freak’s internal ‘Gear Project.’ This program, spearheaded by studio president Satoshi Tajiri, challenges employees to create concepts for new games the studio could potentially develop.

Furushima wanted to create something truly fresh and unlike anything they’d done before. Luckily, Game Freak already had an internal program called the Gear Project – a contest run by the company’s president, Satoshi Tajiri – that encouraged employees to develop original game ideas. Furushima submitted his concept and received approval to begin development.

Game Freak recently revealed a lot about their upcoming game, Beast of Reincarnation, during the Xbox Developer_Direct 2026 showcase. The presentation showed off the game’s combat, characters, and world. Set in the year 4062, the game takes place in a world where nature has overtaken human civilization. However, a dangerous, plant-like parasite called the Blight is spreading, mutating creatures into massive beasts known as Malefacts. Players control Emma, a Sealer whose job is to defeat these Malefacts. Interestingly, Emma is joined by Koo, a seemingly friendly wolf who is also a Malefact. Together, they must journey across Japan and defeat the most dangerous of these creatures.

Game Freak announced that players will have many combat options with Emma, thanks to unlockable skills. Plus, Koo will gain new abilities to provide even more support during challenging battles.

Furushima told IGN that the studio is prioritizing a polished core gameplay experience. This means they’re working hard on things like graphics, smooth performance, and fixing any bugs or technical issues.

We’re really focused on how the game feels to play. While making sure it runs smoothly is important, our main goal is to deliver our creative vision to players and create a truly engaging experience.

Beast of Reincarnation is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S this Summer.
