5 Legendary Pokémon Who Should Lead The Next Legends Game

Pokémon Legends: Z-A brought something new to the long-running Pokémon series by shaking up how the games are usually played and offering a different world to explore. Unlike most Pokémon games, the story in Legends focuses on the places you visit and tells stories about lesser-known Legendary Pokémon. To build on this success, the next Legends game could focus on popular Legendary Pokémon, creating an even more engaging experience for players.

As a Pokémon fan, I’ve noticed that games like Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Legends: Z-A really highlight big, powerful Pokémon like Arceus, Zygarde, and even Darkrai in the DLC. It’s cool to see them play such a central role. What’s a bit sad, though, is that some of the rarest Mythical Pokémon are only available for a short time during events that are long gone now. But honestly, bringing back a super rare and famous Pokémon like that is a great way to build a whole new story and world in these spin-off games. It gives them a strong foundation and makes the experience even more exciting!

5. Urshifu

Urshifu is a unique Legendary Pokémon that first appeared in the Isle of Armor expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield. Though it was featured on the cover of that expansion, Urshifu could become even more important in a future Legends game, largely because of its focus on martial arts. Urshifu has two distinct forms – Single Strike and Rapid Strike – representing different fighting styles. Single Strike Urshifu is a Fighting and Dark-type, while Rapid Strike Urshifu, a Fighting and Water-type, offers a more diverse skillset than many other Legendary Pokémon.

A new Pokémon game similar to Legends: Arceus and Legends Z-A, starring Urshifu, could let players master different fighting styles that alter Pokémon types. Both previous Legends games experimented with traditional gameplay, so another innovative battle system wouldn’t be unexpected. The Agile and Strong Styles from Legends: Arceus could be a good starting point, and the Tera types from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet offer another element to build on. The game’s story might emphasize Pokémon training, potentially with a central tournament creating a fresh and engaging adventure.

4. Celebi

The game Legends: Arceus featured time travel, but didn’t include Celebi, a Psychic/Grass-type Pokémon with a long history in the Pokémon universe. Celebi first appeared in the Johto region (Generation 2) and was the star of the fourth Pokémon movie, Celebi: The Voice of the Forest. In the film, Celebi had the power to travel through time, moving between the past and future and subtly affecting events.

A sequel to Pokémon Legends: Arceus featuring Celebi could be really interesting, maybe sending players to a far-off future instead of the past. Like in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, the game could involve traveling between different time periods, using Celebi to alter events and avert a disaster. We might also see unique Pokémon similar to the Paradox Pokémon from Scarlet and Violet, with even more variations, building on how Legends: Z-A expanded Mega Evolution possibilities.

3. Keldeo

Keldeo, a Mythical Pokémon first appearing in Generation 5, is often overshadowed by the more popular Swords of Justice – Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion. This Fighting and Water-type Pokémon hasn’t really found a prominent role in any of the games, which is unfortunate given its beautiful design. Keldeo resembles a magical unicorn and can use its horn to perform a special move when it transforms into its Resolute Form.

Keldeo feels like a powerful character from a fantasy role-playing game, reminiscent of creatures in Dragon Quest. A new Pokémon game that truly embraced the series’ fantasy elements could be unique, particularly given the rich backstory of the Unova region. Just as Pokémon Legends: Arceus delved into the history of Sinnoh, Keldeo’s story – as a foundling adopted by the Swords of Justice following a human war – offers an opportunity to explore more complex themes within a typical Pokémon game.

2. Regigigas

The Regis are a group of mysterious Pokémon. Pokémon like Regieleki and Regidrago, recently added to the games, make their origins and individual identities even more puzzling. Regigigas is often seen as the leader of this group, and the Regis have been part of the Pokémon world since the Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald games on the Game Boy Advance. When Regigigas was introduced, getting one was incredibly difficult – you had to trade over all the other Regis from previous games to even have a chance to catch it, making it a rare and challenging Pokémon to add to your collection, whether you’re looking for Legendary Pokémon or not.

Fans have been eager to see Regigigas featured more prominently in a Legends game, and for good reason. Given its portrayal in movies and the Pokémon anime as a powerful, massive creature, simply including Regigigas would add significant impact to any story. A game focusing on Regigigas could explore themes of ancient civilizations and ruins, potentially offering a unique underground setting unlike anything seen in the main Pokémon series.

1. Deoxys

Deoxys is a well-known Pokémon, but surprisingly, no game has ever truly focused on its story. As the only Pokémon officially identified as an alien, Deoxys brings a unique science fiction element to the series. A game that explores Deoxys’ background and different forms would be incredibly appealing, finally giving this Psychic-type Pokémon the spotlight it deserves, beyond just brief appearances or end-game content.

A Pokémon game focused on Deoxys could take many exciting paths, much like the Pokémon itself is adaptable. One possibility is introducing new space-based Pokémon with unique forms, similar to the regional variants seen in Legends: Arceus. Another idea is letting players travel into space to discover Deoxys’s origins. Because Deoxys has been around since the third generation of Pokémon games, like Regigigas, its story would be especially appealing to longtime fans.

Deoxys’ ability to change forms – focusing on Attack, Defense, and Speed – would make it a compelling boss, similar to Mega Darkrai in the DLC for Legends: Z-A. No matter what gameplay features the next Legends game introduces, featuring a less common Legendary Pokémon as the central figure will likely inspire a unique and imaginative world, offering players a fresh experience.
