Anime is often associated with action-packed shows featuring epic fights, like those seen in series about the Z-Fighters or the Straw Hat Pirates. While battle anime is incredibly popular, the medium offers much more variety. In recent years, anime has increasingly explored different themes, including heartfelt romances, coming-of-age stories, and lighthearted comedies. Last year, Crunchyroll surprised many with a unique and successful series, and now another unexpected hit has arrived on the platform.
The anime series Takopi’s Original Sin premiered in 2025, initially on Crunchyroll in Japanese. Now, Crunchyroll has announced the English dub is available for streaming. While popular anime often release Japanese and English versions at the same time, less well-known shows sometimes have a delay. Crunchyroll has also shared the full English dub cast list for this six-episode series, which includes some well-known voice actors for anime fans.

What is Takopi’s Original Sin?
Takopi’s Original Sin stands out from many anime shows with its unique story. Takopi, an alien from a cheerful planet, comes to Earth with the goal of making people happy – similar to the vibe of the show Smiling Friends. He quickly meets a girl named Shizuka who can’t smile, and he discovers the sad and troubling events that are causing her unhappiness, leading to a surprisingly dark story.
I was so intrigued when Takopi’s Original Sin first showed up in Shonen Jump – it was a really different vibe from a lot of the other manga Shueisha publishes! It only ran for two volumes back in 2021, but it actually gave us a pretty definitive ending. Now, if you’re thinking about checking out the anime, be warned – it can be a tough watch. It deals with some really mature themes and has a lot of bullying depicted, which is hard to see. It’s not exactly horror, but honestly, it’s one of the most disturbing series I’ve ever come across, no matter which language you watch it in.
