Ridley Scott’s New Dave Bautista Thriller Trap House Is Officially Heading to Netflix After Becoming a Streaming Sensation

Ridley Scott is a well-known name in film history. He’s created iconic and lasting franchises like Alien and Blade Runner. However, some of his more recent films, including Napoleon and Gladiator 2, haven’t been as successful or well-received.

He returned to the action-thriller genre as an executive producer for a recent film starring Dave Bautista, which premiered in theaters just before Thanksgiving 2025. However, the movie didn’t perform well at first. Developed by Bautista’s Dogbone Entertainment, Signature Films, and in association with Scott Free Productions, it gained popularity after its release for home viewing.

After performing well on Prime Video throughout January, the film Trap House will now be available on Netflix starting February 27th, according to What’s On Netflix. This is good news for the filmmakers, Scott and Bautista, as the movie didn’t do well in cinemas and received mixed reviews – critics gave it a 52% rating, while audiences scored it at 43%.

Now, viewers at home can decide for themselves if the movie was unfairly judged before it became available on streaming services like Prime Video and Netflix.

Dave Bautista, Trap House Seeking a Second Chance on Streaming

The movie Trap House centers around a DEA agent, played by Dave Bautista, and his complicated relationship with his son, who is portrayed by Jack Champion – known for his role as the human Spider in the Avatar films. While Bautista is a familiar face from big-budget movies like those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Army of the Dead, he doesn’t dominate this film; instead, he plays a part within an ensemble cast.

Instead, the film focuses on showcasing newer actors, but this could be its biggest weakness. It doesn’t fully utilize Dave Bautista’s presence to cover up the movie’s flaws, which is surprising given the gritty and intense tone Trap House was aiming for.

In November, Bautista explained that making the movie was about finding the right mix. They aimed for something that felt like both the action of Fast and Furious and the heartwarming friendship of Stand by Me, while still capturing the kids’ kindness and innocence.
