Dragon Ball Announces New Anime

The Dragon Ball Genki Dama Festival is happening now, and fans of the Z-Fighters have a lot to be excited about! With the newest anime, Dragon Ball Daima, sending Goku and his friends to the Demon Realm, the Dragon Ball series is back with new content. We’ve got all the details on the major announcement made at the festival, so you can find out what’s next for the Saiyans.

The exciting news was revealed at the start of Genkidamtsuri, with voice actress Masako Nozawa and Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku present. It made sense they were there, as they announced the return of Dragon Ball Super with the long-awaited Moro Arc. Previously hinted at as Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol Arc, the new series will continue the story after the Tournament of Power, and will feature Goku and Vegeta battling a wizard who can steal energy. Production is underway, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Producer Akio Iyoku announced that the comic series will be adapted into an anime. The voice actor for Goku is excited to reprise her role, and fans of the Z-Fighters are likely overjoyed to see the story of the Galactic Patrol return to television.

Where to Now, Dragon Ball?

If you’re curious about what’s happened most recently in the Dragon Ball story, the latest adventure for the Z-Fighters was Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This movie showed Piccolo and Gohan achieving new levels of power while battling a revamped Red Ribbon Army and a surprising new version of Cell called Cell Max. The manga then picked up shortly after Cell Max’s defeat, featuring Goku, Vegeta, and Broly testing Gohan’s powerful new ‘Beast’ form. An extra chapter last year showed Goten and Trunks becoming superheroes, but fans have been eager to see where the Dragon Ball Super manga will go next.

The original Dragon Ball Super anime finished in 2018, but the story continued with two movies. One of the longest storylines, called the Galactic Patrol Arc (or Moro Arc), featured all the Z Fighters battling a new global threat. This arc happens right after the Tournament of Power, so don’t expect major character upgrades, though there are still some surprises. The story is set between the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, meaning characters like Orange Piccolo and Gohan Beast won’t appear if the adaptation stays true to the manga.
