Early reviews for Charli XCX’s new film, ‘The Moment,’ are starting to come out, and opinions are divided.
The movie centers around Charli, a pop star playing a version of herself, as she begins her first large-scale arena tour following the huge success of her latest album.
The movie features Charli and other well-known actors, including Kylie Jenner, Alexander Skarsgard, and Rosanna Arquette.
The film debuted at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and has received a mixed reaction from critics. Screen Rant, for example, described it as “a horribly misguided mockumentary.”
According to the reviewer, the film ‘The Moment’ seems to be about Charli XCX’s fear of appearing embarrassing or awkward.
“The film neither works as straight comedy nor as a tense character drama.”
The Guardian appreciated the film’s clever concept but felt it didn’t quite live up to its potential. They criticized its lack of boldness – in its softened satire, its confusing mix of themes, and a late attempt at humor that felt forced and over the top – ultimately preventing it from being truly impactful despite its insightful observations.
Despite receiving a mix of reviews, the film ‘The Moment’ currently has a surprisingly low score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Hollywood Reporter described the film as confusing, but acknowledged it was initially enjoyable for general audiences. They noted it held their attention for a period of time.
The film loses focus as it progresses, becoming unsure of what it wants to be. It starts as a sharp satire of the superficial celebrity world, but then tries to become a sincere exploration of what it was like to be at the heart of that intense, yet often playful, frenzy. Ultimately, the filmmakers, Zamiri and Charli, opt for the more earnest approach, which unfortunately makes the film feel overly self-important.
British singer Charli became incredibly popular after releasing her sixth album, Brat, in June 2024. The album sparked a major summer trend online.
Aidan Zamiri directed ‘The Moment,’ which blends actual concert footage from Charli XCX’s hugely successful Brat tour with made-up scenes showing what happened behind the scenes.

The Moment will premiere in cinemas in the UK on Friday, 20th February 2026.
