A Major 2026 MCU Appearance Was Just Quietly Debunked

Rumors are circulating that a well-known hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reappear in a Disney+ series this year. Many heroes haven’t been seen in a while, either on the big screen or in TV shows. Aside from the animated series What If…?, Shang-Chi hasn’t been back since his impressive movie debut. Ms. Marvel hasn’t appeared since The Marvels, and Vision has been absent since the end of WandaVision. Vision is scheduled to return in the 2026 series VisionQuest, which will also feature Ultron as the villain in some capacity.

Rumors circulated that Chris Pratt might reprise his role as Star-Lord in a film called VisionQuest, sparked by a photo of him with the character Vision. While some fans initially believed this could be for Avengers: Doomsday, speculation shifted to VisionQuest, which is set to introduce Tommy Maximoff (Speed, Wanda’s son from the comics). However, Chris Pratt has since confirmed in an interview with Steve Hargrave that these rumors are not true.

During an interview with Steve Hargrave about his new film, Mercy, Chris Pratt was asked about his upcoming roles. Hargrave pointed out it would be a busy year with Pratt reprising his role as Mario in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and then returning as Star-Lord. Pratt confirmed this, then clarified that while a return as Star-Lord was planned, it might not happen in 2026. He emphasized his commitment to fulfilling promises, stating they had agreed Star-Lord would return and he intends to keep that commitment.

Star-Lord Could Still Return In Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Pratt’s comments suggest he likely won’t return for VisionQuest, a decision that makes sense considering his Guardians of the Galaxy character, Star-Lord, never met Vision. The idea of them simply spending time together in the movie felt forced. While some fans hoped to see both characters team up against Doctor Doom in a potential Avengers: Doomsday film, that movie is also slated for 2026, so any current reports should be viewed with skepticism.

Honestly, I don’t see much of a point in bringing Chris Pratt back as Star-Lord for the Avengers: Doomsday movie. He doesn’t have any powers of his own, and his gear is pretty much all he has to rely on. Unless he’s figured out a way to keep everything powered up since getting back to Earth, I doubt he’d be much help against Doctor Doom. I think he’d be a better fit for Avengers: Secret Wars – maybe as part of one of the different worlds they visit. So, it looks like we might not see Star-Lord again until 2027, if at all.
