Great news for fans! Dragon Ball Super is officially getting a new anime series. This announcement comes as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball manga, created by the late Akira Toriyama. The new series will continue the story from where it left off, and will feature a major villain from the manga.
This weekend, during a 40th-anniversary celebration in Japan, Dragon Ball Super officially announced its comeback as an anime series with Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. The first details have been released, confirming the new anime will adapt the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner” arc from the Dragon Ball Super manga. This arc focuses on the dangerous villain, Planet Eater Moro. You can find a first look at the new anime below.
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol First Details Revealed

I’m so excited for the next Dragon Ball Super anime project, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol! While we don’t have a release date yet, the official site has confirmed it’s going to adapt the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc from the manga, which Toyotaro illustrated with oversight from the amazing Akira Toriyama. And the best part? It’s picking up right after the Tournament of Power from the original TV series that ended in 2018. They’re making it easy for fans who haven’t followed the manga, too – it’s a seamless continuation of the story we all love!
The Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol arc will finally bring the Moro storyline to the anime! This new series follows the events of the ‘Universe Survival Arc’ (which originally aired from 2015 to 2018) and adapts the ‘Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc’ from the Dragon Ball manga. Goku and Vegeta team up with the Galactic Patrol – the galaxy’s peacekeeping force – to fight Moro, a powerful new villain who devours planets!
What’s Next for Dragon Ball Super?

Although a release date for Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol hasn’t been announced, it probably won’t be available until 2027 or later. This is partly because a remastered version of the original Dragon Ball Super series is coming out this year, starting with the Battle of Gods arc. With this enhanced edition arriving this fall, fans will have to wait even longer for the new anime movie.
The return of the anime Dragon Ball Super is a big sign of what’s to come for the series, though it’s still unclear what to expect from the manga. The manga is currently paused, and fans are eager to find out what happens next. Eventually, the anime will likely face a similar situation. We’ll have to wait and see how things unfold.
