It’s been a rough period for Ubisoft fans. The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been cancelled, even though reports suggested it was nearly complete. Similarly, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is supposedly delayed despite also being close to finished. Meanwhile, fans of Watch Dogs haven’t had a new game to look forward to since Watch Dogs: Legion in 2020.
While the future of the franchise is uncertain, it might not be over completely. Industry analyst Tom Henderson recently suggested it was finished, but another insider, shinobi602, disagreed, implying there’s still some possibility.
Henderson mentioned the Watch Dogs movie is still being made. When asked if his comments related to the movie or the games, shinobi602 stated he wasn’t talking about a movie, but he didn’t offer any further explanation.
This doesn’t automatically mean a Watch Dogs 4 featuring Aiden Pearce is on the way. It could simply mean updates to improve the performance of the existing Watch Dogs games – bringing them to 60 frames per second, like Ubisoft recently did with older versions of Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal. It’s hard to know for sure, but even though it wasn’t part of Ubisoft’s recent changes, the Watch Dogs series might not be canceled, just paused.
