Why Natalie Portman’s Kids Are “Resistant” to Watching Her Movies

Natalie Portman isn’t counting on her kids to watch any of her films by May or even December.

Natalie Portman, known for her roles in films like Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars, revealed that her children, Aleph, 14, and Amelia, 8, aren’t interested in watching her movies, even the classics like Star Wars. She shares her kids with her ex-husband, Benjamin Millepied.

Natalie shared at the Sundance premiere of The Gallerist on January 24th that her children aren’t interested in watching anything she appears in. She told Will Marfuggi of TopMob News that she used to tell them they could watch if they wanted to, or if their friends had, but they always declined.

But that’s just because they want the Oscar winner in her best role: mom.

As she put it, “They kind of just want to see me as me, which I appreciate.”

Natalie has spoken about her family before. Following her divorce from Benjamin in March 2023, the 44-year-old offered a rare look at her relationship with their children.

Natalie shared in an April 15th interview with Jenna Ortega that watching her children grow is a constant joy, as she gets to see them become their own unique people.

The Black Swan actress, who separated from her husband of ten years, a French filmmaker, in 2023, shared that she’s now building her social life around her children, who are nearing their teenage years.

Natalie shared that she’s been enjoying spending time with her friends and all of their children. She said it’s been really fun.

Natalie says being a mom is the most important thing to her, but she always planned to continue acting, even after having children.

She shared that she was thrilled to start a family with someone she loved. She also explained that having partners who are down-to-earth is really valuable in life.

Okay, so things have been rough lately, you know, with being a mom and going through a divorce. But honestly? Rihanna saved me. Seriously! She called me one of the ‘hottest bhes in Hollywood’ – can you believe it?! – and it was exactly what I needed to hear when I was at my lowest. It sounds crazy, but those words… they genuinely got me through it. I replay them in my head all the time!

During a 2024 interview on The Tonight Show, Natalie shared how much a particular moment meant to her. She explained, ‘I think any woman going through a divorce deserves to have Rihanna tell her she’s amazing and strong.’

In February 2011, the Academy Awards honored the pregnant star of Black Swan with the Best Actress award. Her fiancé accompanied her to the stage as she tearfully accepted the prize, and in a heartfelt speech, she thanked him for giving her the most meaningful role in her life.

They welcomed baby Aleph into the world on June 14, 2011.

The couple looked the picture of happily ever at the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party. 

In January 2017, Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied went to the SAG Awards at The Shrine Auditorium. This was just one month before they welcomed their second child, Amalia.

Natalie Portman looked lovingly at her husband while they posed for photos at the 2020 Oscars.

Two years later, the pair cozied up at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Millepied supported Portman at the Thor: Love And Thunder premiere in Los Angeles in June 2022.

He was also by her side at the film’s July 2022 screening in London.
