Disney’s Predator: Badlands Is Officially Losing Domination on PVOD 2 Weeks Later

The Predator series saw a revival in the 2020s with Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey. After working on three projects, this marked Trachtenberg’s first film released in theaters.

Dan Trachtenberg directed both Prey, which premiered exclusively on Hulu, and Predator: Killer of Killers, the franchise’s first animated film, also debuting on the streaming platform. While Predator: Badlands had a limited theatrical run, it’s now seeing declining viewership on demand, according to FlixPatrol.

The movie Predator: Badlands came out in theaters on November 5th and quickly became popular on streaming services, staying at the top of the charts for nearly two weeks. However, it recently dropped to second place when the musical Song Sung Blue, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, became the most popular title for digital rental and purchase.

On January 25th, its ranking continued to fall. Currently, it’s sixth place on Amazon’s digital platforms in the U.S., behind Song Sung Blue, Russell Crowe’s Nuremberg, Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another, Wicked: For Good, and Emma Stone’s Bugonia. On iTunes, it’s in fifth place, with a similar top group consisting of Nuremberg, Song Sung Blue, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, and Bugonia. However, it’s currently the most popular title on Google.

Despite being released some time ago, Predator: Badlands remains popular. It currently ranks number one on Google, second on the Amazon store, and third on both iTunes and Vudu.

I’m so glad to see Predator: Badlands is still getting amazing reactions, even now that it’s out digitally! People clearly love it – it’s got an 86% approval rating from critics and a whopping 95% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes. Plus, it’s officially ‘Certified Fresh’ and ‘Verified Hot’ – that’s a huge deal, and it really shows how much everyone is enjoying it!

Even though Predator: Badlands was well-received by audiences and considered one of the top sci-fi movies of 2025, it didn’t make much money at the box office. With a production cost of $105 million and worldwide earnings of $184.2 million (not including marketing expenses), the film ultimately failed to turn a profit. Despite this, it’s become a standout addition to the Predator series.

What’s Next for the Predator Franchise?

Dan Trachtenberg has breathed new life into the sci-fi franchise after the underwhelming Alien crossover films. With his projects consistently earning positive reviews, fans are excited about what he’ll do next.

Trachtenberg explained that there are endless possibilities for expanding the story, whether through animation or live-action. They can introduce new characters, explore different time periods, and visit previously unseen locations. He’s particularly excited about taking the franchise in directions that other sci-fi stories haven’t ventured before.

Predator: Badlands is available to rent or purchase on all digital platforms.
