Marvel Studios is planning future storylines for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch that will address some of the criticisms surrounding her portrayal in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Many viewers felt the 2022 film undid the positive character growth Wanda Maximoff experienced in WandaVision, quickly turning her into a villain. This was largely due to a combination of her long history of trauma and the corrupting influence of the Darkhold, which ultimately led her to bury herself under a mountain to destroy all copies of the dangerous book.
Marvel Studios is reportedly working on a new movie or series focused on Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, according to insider Daniel Richtman. This comes after a four-year gap in her appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which started following the mixed reception to her part in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Just because Marvel Studios is developing a Scarlet Witch project doesn’t mean it will actually be made, or released anytime soon. The studio often explores many ideas for movies and shows that ultimately never get finished or shown to the public.
Although Marvel Studios plans to refresh the Marvel Cinematic Universe and may replace some actors after Avengers: Secret Wars, sources say Elizabeth Olsen is expected to continue playing Scarlet Witch in Phase 7.
Fans were definitely disappointed when Elizabeth Olsen wasn’t listed among the cast for Avengers: Doomsday. However, if the latest rumors are true, a version of Wanda Maximoff could appear in Avengers 5, potentially exploring her family history with Magneto and Quicksilver.
It’s still unclear what the future holds for Wanda Maximoff from the main Marvel universe (Earth-616), particularly since her fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is uncertain. Many fans believe she’ll make a significant return in Avengers: Secret Wars, potentially leading to a new solo story for her in Phase 7, connected to the upcoming Mutant Saga.
Even though her future is uncertain, it’s obvious that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch still has a role to play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her eventual return could even make Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness feel more satisfying, especially for fans who were disappointed by her seemingly abrupt ending. It would reassure viewers that Marvel hasn’t abandoned such a popular character after seven years of development.
Here’s What Scarlet Witch’s MCU Solo Movie Should Look Like

Jac Schaeffer, the head writer and a director of several episodes of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, is the ideal choice to spearhead Scarlet Witch’s next project. However, she won’t be taking on those roles for the final installment, VisionQuest. She’s passing the torch to Terry Matalas because developing both projects simultaneously proved too difficult, as she explained to The Hollywood Reporter.
Schaeffer has already demonstrated her talent with magic and mythology in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through her work on WandaVision, and she currently seems to have availability for new projects. She’s also publicly supported the idea of a standalone Scarlet Witch movie, playfully stating she was “just hoping” it would happen, as fans have long requested.
Marvel Studios has many options for a Scarlet Witch solo project. They could have her battle various supernatural beings, or even use the aftermath of Secret Wars to delve into her comic book origins as a mutant. One possibility is a confrontation with Chthon, the being who created the Darkhold, continuing the story from the Doctor Strange sequel where she destroyed all copies of the dangerous book across different universes.
Looking ahead, Marvel could definitely bring Wanda’s kids, Wiccan and Speed, and of course, Vision, back into the picture. But honestly, I worry about that. Introducing them too soon might feel like a retread of WandaVision and take away from what made that series so special – letting Wanda really explore her powers and journey as an individual.
