Gerard Butler’s character faced incredible odds and survived a global catastrophe in the 2020 film Greenland. He’s back in the recently released sequel to deal with the aftermath. After its theatrical release on January 9th, the action-packed thriller is now available to stream, and viewers won’t have to wait long to watch it at home.
Ric Roman Waugh directs the sequel, Greenland 2: Migration, which stars Morena Baccarin and Roger Dale Floyd as Allison and Nathan Garrity. The cast also includes Amber Rose Revah (known from The Punisher), Roman Griffin Davis (from Jojo Rabbit), William Abadie (of Homeland), Trond Fausa Aurvåg (who appeared in Oppenheimer), and Tommie Earl Jenkins (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), joining Gerard Butler.
The movie Greenland 2: Migration will be available to stream digitally starting January 27, 2026. Fans can once again join Gerard Butler as he struggles to protect his family in a perilous new world. You’ll be able to find it on streaming services like Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango. Read the official description below for more details.
After a comet destroyed much of the Earth, the Garrity family is forced to leave their safe underground bunker in Greenland and journey across the ruined landscape to find a new place to live.
‘Greenland 2’ Has Struggled Where the First Movie Succeeded

The first Greenland movie was praised for its realistic take on an approaching doomsday event, but Greenland 2: Migration didn’t live up to expectations after a six-year delay. Critics were split on the sequel, giving it a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences were more positive with a score of 66%. Mark Keizer from MovieWeb felt the Greenland series had the potential to be better, and ultimately concluded…
The film Greenland 2: Migration directly references current events with its title and storyline, featuring a temporary government grappling with whether to accept refugees. While it’s unfair to expect the director to predict the future, the sequel disappoints after a strong first film, offering a merely adequate continuation of a series that had potential.
Beyond receiving negative reviews, Greenland 2: Migration is proving to be a major box office failure this year. Similar to the comet that starts the story in Greenland, the sequel has flopped financially, earning only about $22 million despite costing $90 million to make. Because of this, a third Greenland movie – which would have been hard to make anyway, given the ending of the second film – is unlikely to happen, despite the promise shown in the first movie.
