The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be a particularly ambitious Marvel movie starring Tom Holland. The film boasts a huge cast, with Mark Ruffalo returning as the Hulk and Jon Bernthal back as the Punisher. The addition of Sadie Sink, rumored to be playing a new version of Jean Grey, suggests the movie will be important for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, fans are primarily talking about just how many villains will appear. With Scorpion, Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang, and Ramrod all confirmed, there’s concern the movie won’t be able to give each villain enough attention. And despite this already large group, reports suggest even more enemies of Spider-Man will be included.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie will include more villains than we currently know about. While it’s wise to be cautious with rumors like these—Richtman didn’t specify who these villains are—the film’s title, Brand New Day, suggests a significant reset for Spider-Man. This new beginning, where the world has forgotten Peter Parker’s secret identity, gives Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures plenty of opportunities to introduce iconic villains from the comics.
Most Spider-Man: Brand New Day Villains Won’t Have a Major Role

The many villains appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day likely serve to bridge the gap between the previous movies and this new one. We’ll probably see a fast-paced opening or montage showing Spider-Man working as a local hero, fighting crime without the support he used to have. Marvel did something similar in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, using a montage to quickly show the team’s backstory and mentioning classic villains. This allowed them to skip a full origin story while still honoring the source material. Spider-Man: Brand New Day can do the same, showing how Peter Parker has adjusted to being a hero after the events of 2021. Without the resources of the Avengers or Stark’s technology, he’s gone back to his original, resourceful style of crimefighting, relying on his intelligence and homemade equipment to protect Manhattan.
As a big Spider-Man fan, I appreciate seeing so many villains show up in Brand New Day, and it definitely makes the world feel richer. But I’m also a little worried about the direction they’re going. Adding so many characters, even if it’s just small parts, could make the story too complicated and lose the heart of what makes Spider-Man great. I’d hate to see some of my favorite villains just show up for a quick scene – it feels like a waste of their potential, and we’ve seen that happen in other superhero movies. It’s a tough challenge to juggle characters like the Hulk, the Punisher, and even someone like Jean Grey alongside all the regular street-level bad guys. I’m hoping they can pull it off, but it feels like a delicate balance that could easily go wrong.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31st.
