Nigella Lawson has officially been unveiled as a new judge on The Great British Bake Off.
The famous chef and television personality shared in a statement that she is very excited to be part of the show.
She’s taking over from Prue Leith, who recently left the show after ten years as a judge. She’ll be working alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.
In a statement, Lawson said she was “uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now!”
It’s definitely a bit intimidating following such baking legends as Prue Leith and Mary Berry, but I’m incredibly excited! The Great British Bake Off is more than just a TV show – it’s a beloved national institution, and I feel honored to be a part of it. I’m thrilled to join the team and can’t wait to meet all the future bakers. I wish Prue all the best and I’m so grateful for this amazing opportunity!
Prue Leith shared her enthusiastic support for Nigella Lawson joining Bake Off. She described Nigella as ‘sassy, fun, and very knowledgeable’ about baking – especially ‘onions, croissants, cake, and crumble!’

Leith became a judge on the show in 2017 when it switched from BBC to Channel 4, and she’s been a regular part of the panel ever since.
The well-known food writer and restaurant owner left the show for its special Stand Up to Cancer edition in 2024, and Lady Caroline Waldegrave filled in for her.
Last week, she announced she was leaving the show, saying she’s had a wonderful nine years with ‘Bake Off’ and will miss working with her colleagues, including Paul, Alison Hammond, and Noel Fielding, as well as the teams at Love Productions and Channel 4.
She explained that now feels like the perfect time to retire – she’s 86, after all! She’s eager to pursue personal interests, like enjoying her garden during the summer months. She’s confident whoever takes over will find the role as rewarding as she did, and she feels grateful for her time with the team.
The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on Channel 4 on catch-up.
