Patrick Dempsey’s New Hitman Series Just Dropped on Hulu

After five years away from acting and his iconic role on Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey is stepping out of the shadow of his ‘McDreamy’ character. He’s back on network television with a new crime drama that recently premiered on Fox and is now also available on Hulu.

The new crime drama, Memory of a Killer, premiered on Hulu January 26th. Created by Ed Whitmore and Tracey Malone, the series is based on the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer and stars Dempsey as Angelo Doyle, a seemingly ordinary salesman and father who leads a secret life as a dangerous hitman in New York City. When Doyle begins to develop early-onset Alzheimer’s, his two worlds start to dangerously overlap. New episodes air on Fox Mondays at 9 p.m. ET and become available to stream on Hulu the next day. The second episode will be available on Hulu at 2:01 a.m. ET on January 27th.

Memory of a Killer Is a Watchable but Flawed Thriller

Early reviews for Memory of a Killer suggest it’s not a must-watch thriller, though it’s not necessarily bad. While stars Demspey and Imperioli deliver strong performances, the show doesn’t quite stand out from the crowd. Critics say the series struggles to live up to the potential of its premise, with awkward dialogue and a softened tone that makes it less gripping than the original story.

Critics had mixed reactions to Memory of a Killer. The Hollywood Reporter found it started strong but quickly became unbelievable, while Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com felt it lacked a distinctive style. Keith Phipps of TV Guide described the show as watchable but not particularly memorable, despite its interesting initial concept.

The series is brand new, and critics have only seen the first two episodes so far. Despite this, they believe Memory of a Killer could still become a compelling show as the season unfolds. TV Guide noted that the series shows promise and could become more interesting, while Decider highlighted its potential to offer a unique take on the thriller genre.

Will There Be a Memory of a Killer Season 2?

It’s still uncertain whether the show will continue. While it just started, Fox likely won’t decide about the future of Memory of a Killer until later in the season.

The premiere of Memory of a Killer continues on Fox January 27th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. New episodes will air weekly until the season ends on March 23rd, and each episode will be available to stream on Hulu the day after it airs.
