I’m really glad to hear CBS has renewed ‘The Equalizer’ for a fourth season! Honestly, it wasn’t a huge shock – the show is a real hit for them, consistently ranking as one of their most-watched dramas, and it’s genuinely popular overall. Seeing Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw continue his work is exciting, and I’m looking forward to what they have planned.
Season 3 of Tracker drew an average of 16.5 million viewers across all platforms over 35 days, according to Nielsen’s ratings, which combine traditional TV and streaming numbers. The show performed similarly to ABC’s High Potential, making it one of the most-watched entertainment series of 2025 that wasn’t sports or news. Overall, it was a very successful season for network television, with Tracker being CBS’s top-performing program.
What Happened in Tracker Season 3?
Season 3 of Tracker follows Colter Shaw as he continues to investigate the secrets surrounding his father, Ashton Shaw’s, death. He also takes on a variety of challenging missing persons cases. The season begins with the unexpected arrival of Colter’s brother, Russell Shaw, who brings news of a dangerous conspiracy involving artificial intelligence known as The Process.
Colter travels across the country, working as a private investigator. He takes on cases everywhere from remote locations like the Arizona desert and the Santa Cruz Mountains to larger cities such as Boston and Tacoma. He’s solved serious crimes – even clearing a mother wrongly accused of murdering her daughter – and has recently encountered a new adversary.
A popular character from the past, Keaton (Brent Sexton), reappears and asks Colter for help finding his missing partner, Nat Dobbs (Dean McKenzie). The rest of season 3 will focus on solving this case, as well as investigating the information Russell gave Colter’s team about Ashton Shaw.
Who Stars in CBS’s Tracker?
The show Tracker follows Colter Shaw, a skilled survivalist who was taught to handle dangerous situations from childhood. Before Tracker, Hartley was known for his role in the NBC drama This Is Us, which aired for six seasons (2016-2022) and received a very positive 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The show Tracker originally featured a supporting cast including Colter’s handlers, Teddi and Velma Bruin, portrayed by Robin Weigert and Abby McEnany. Weigert is well-known for playing Calamity Jane in Deadwood, while McEnany starred in the series Work in Progress. However, Weigert departed after the first season, and McEnany left after the second.
Eric Graise, who played Bobby Exley, Colter’s tech expert, left the show after season two. In season three, Colter starts working with Bobby’s cousin, Randy (Chris Lee), who is even more skilled with technology. Randy creates a program for Colter that can locate missing persons, taking over the roles previously filled by Teddi and Velma.
For three seasons, Fiona Rene has played Reenie Green, the lawyer who Colter relies on for all his legal troubles, in Tracker. Cassidy McClincy appears as an associate at Reenie’s law firm. Wendy Crewson, Melissa Roxburgh, and Jared Padalecki (Ackles) also star as members of Colter’s family: his mother Mary Dove, sister Dory, and brother Russell.
When Does Tracker Season 4 Premiere?
Fans can look forward to the show returning this fall as part of CBS’s 2026-2027 season. The renewal was announced alongside several other popular CBS series, including Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Matlock, Elsbeth, Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Sydney, Survivor, and The Amazing Race.
CBS has started its new shows in mid-October for the last two seasons, and they may do the same with the fourth season of Tracker. Tracker has consistently aired on Sunday nights since it began, and it’s expected to continue in that prime-time slot during the 2026-2027 television season.
