With the release of The Strangers – Chapter 3, the latest installment in the The Strangers reboot series, Madelaine Petsch is already looking ahead to her next horror project. Despite starring in all three terrifying films, she’s eager to continue working in the genre. While the project is still in the very early stages of development, she hinted at a few ideas without revealing specifics. Fans can see Petsch in The Strangers – Chapter 3 when it arrives in theaters on February 6th.
In a recent interview with MovieWeb, the actor discussed her plans for future horror projects and revealed a specific franchise she’d be interested in revisiting.
I’m currently developing a remake of a favorite film from the 1970s, but I’m not ready to announce which one just yet. I’m really enthusiastic about the project and honestly surprised no one has revisited it before.
The 1970s delivered many classic horror films, including titles like The Exorcist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Dawn of the Dead – all of which have since been remade. Even lesser-known films like Suspiria, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and Black Christmas have received revivals, which limits the options for new remakes. The actress behind the project acknowledged it was a more obscure choice, explaining she only recently discovered the film and immediately knew she wanted to remake it, saying, “It’s a deep cut… I hadn’t heard about it until very recently. And then I watched it and I was like, ‘This is crazy, I have to remake this.’
Honestly, the fact that the title is so mysterious just makes me even more hyped! It’s got me thinking – could this be a fresh spin on a classic like Tourist Trap, or maybe something in the vein of The Abominable Dr. Phibes? Perhaps even a nod to The Brood? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but my imagination is already running wild!
The End of an Era
Before Madison Petsch stars in a new movie, she’ll appear in the third installment of the Strangers film series. The first Strangers movie came out in 2008 and followed a couple terrorized by masked attackers who specifically targeted them because they were home. The second film, The Strangers: Prey at Night, released in 2018, showed a family being tormented by masked criminals while staying at an RV park.

The new Strangers trilogy is a bold attempt to bring the horror franchise back to life. Instead of simply retelling the original story or completely reinventing it, the movies offer a unique approach for the slasher genre: a continuous narrative spread across three films, with each one picking up immediately after the last. This creates a particularly intense experience for Madelaine Petsch’s character, Maya, and leaves viewers feeling as worn down and terrified as she does as her ordeal continues relentlessly.
