I’ve been really impressed with the selection of shows and movies on Peacock – they seem to have everything! But what I especially love is how much great animated content they have. They’ve got movies from DreamWorks, Illumination, and even some Peacock originals, including classics like How to Train Your Dragon and Despicable Me. They just added even more in January, like All Dogs Go to Heaven and Shark Tale, but sadly, it looks like we’re about to lose a really good animated movie from the platform soon, which is a shame.
DreamWorks’ animated film Abominable, which premiered on Peacock on January 1st, won’t be available for long. It’s already scheduled to leave the platform by the end of the month. The movie, directed and written by Jill Culton, tells the story of Yi, a teenager voiced by Chloe Bennet, who is dealing with the loss of her father by withdrawing from loved ones. Her life changes when she finds a young Yeti and goes on a 2,000-mile adventure across China to help him return home, a journey that also helps her cope with her grief.
DreamWorks’ Abominable Is a Heartwarming Animated Adventure You Need To See
ComicBook called Abominable “warmer than a Yeti hug,” meaning it’s a truly heartwarming film that’s easy to get lost in. Beyond its beautiful animation – a DreamWorks signature – the movie stands out because of its surprisingly touching story. Abominable skillfully combines a classic magical adventure with deeper themes of loss, healing, family, and connection, creating a bittersweet experience that appeals to both children and adults.
Despite receiving positive reviews – an 83% rating from critics and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, placing it among the top 20 DreamWorks films – Abominable struggled to find an audience. Released after similar animated movies like Smallfoot and Norm of the North, and overshadowed by major hits like Toy Story 4, Frozen II, and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019, it simply got lost in the crowd. While the film earned a respectable $188 million worldwide, it landed in the lower half of DreamWorks’ box office performers and has largely been overlooked since its release.
Where to Stream Abominable After It Leaves Peacock?
The animated film Abominable might become hard to find, much like the mythical Yeti. Currently, it’s only available on Peacock, and it may not stay there much longer. While Abominable has been on other streaming services in the past, and new options are always appearing, there’s no guarantee it will reappear elsewhere. For now, you can still watch it on Peacock, or rent or buy it from online stores.
