While “Free Bert” is a fresh idea from comedian Bert Kreischer, it definitely feels like the funny, slightly raunchy movies of the 2000s – think “Wedding Crashers,” “Superbad,” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” – are back in style.

We’ve seen Netflix give a show a real boost after a shaky start before – remember Tires? The first season was clearly made on a shoestring budget, but they really invested in season two. Free Bert has demonstrated enough promise early on that it absolutely deserves the chance to build on that momentum with a second season.
I was really excited to see Tires season 2 bring in some major names like Thomas Haden Church and Vince Vaughn, and even launch the career of a new Saturday Night Live player, Veronica Slowikowska. It got me thinking – if Netflix does the same thing with Free Bert, bringing in big stars and up-and-comers – which totally fits the LA vibe of the show – it could really become the fresh, funny, and slightly awkward comedy that Curb Your Enthusiasm fans have been craving since it ended.
As of today, Netflix hasn’t announced whether there will be a second season of Free Bert. However, given the show’s immediate popularity and its unique, edgy humor – a style rarely seen now – a renewal would be a smart move.
