The Marvel Cinematic Universe saw a big change when Marvel Studios decided to rework Daredevil: Born Again to match the darker feel of the original Netflix series. The first season aimed to connect the old Defenders storyline with the main MCU, letting the show delve into the complex relationship between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) after their Netflix seasons ended. Although the production changes caused some pacing issues at first, the show successfully brought back the gritty, street-level action fans wanted. This success led to an early renewal for a third season, and also paved the way for a special episode featuring Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal). Now, the third season of Born Again might introduce classic villains from the Daredevil comics.
A new report suggests the upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again might significantly change the story by bringing back The Hand as the main villains. While rumors from industry sources should be taken with a grain of salt – they aren’t always accurate – this aligns with existing speculation that Elektra (Elodie Yung) will reappear. Considering Elektra’s history and connection to the ancient ninja group, her return could signal the resurgence of The Hand.
The Hand, a secret society obsessed with achieving immortality using dragon-derived substances, was defeated in the Netflix series The Defenders. Reviving this group is a risky move for the studio, but it also allows them to create a version of the organization that’s more faithful to its origins.
The Hand Having a Second Shot at the MCU Could Be Great

Many Daredevil fans agree that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s portrayal of the Hand didn’t live up to its potential. While the Hand is a powerful, mystical organization in the comics, the TV series presented them as a fairly standard crime group. The show also downplayed their supernatural roots, instead focusing on a plot about extending life through corporate means, which ultimately led to their defeat at Midland Circle.
To successfully reintroduce the villainous group, the Hand, in the Daredevil: Born Again series, the show needs to fit their return into the existing storyline and offer a believable reason for their reappearance. Marvel has done something similar before with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. That series reimagined the Ten Rings organization, moving away from the comedic portrayal seen in previous films. Born Again can do the same with the Hand – by recognizing its past while establishing a more serious and powerful new leadership, the series can make them a truly threatening force again.

As a huge Daredevil fan, I was thrilled to see the Hand reintroduced – and it’s not just nostalgia! Remember Stone from Season 1, reporting to Stick? That storyline felt like it was dropped, leaving us wondering what happened to this ancient warrior and the larger conflict between the Chaste and the Hand. Bringing the Hand back gives the writers a chance to finally explore that thread, and potentially bring in elements from stories like “Shadowland” or the Beast. Honestly, after years of Matt fighting Wilson Fisk’s schemes, it’s a welcome shift and a chance to dive into the more mystical side of Daredevil.
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ this March.
