Sydney Sweeney caused a stir online in 2025 with a jeans commercial, and it led to some debate. Now, it looks like history is repeating itself in 2026 with a new underwear commercial. The trouble started when a promotional stunt for her lingerie line got her into hot water with the people who maintain the iconic Hollywood Sign, and we’re now seeing why it caused a problem.
Sydney Sweeney’s Instagram has officially released a video of the Housemaid actress and several others going guerrilla on the Hollywood Sign with a whole lot of underwear. It shows the group driving up to the sign under the cover of night and covering the Hollywood Sign in underwear, part of Sweeney’s new line, which we now know is called SYRN. Check it out.

This is the first step in the marketing for SYRN, which officially launches tomorrow. While the ad isn’t particularly shocking, this video circulating online could cause problems for Sydney Sweeney. The team that maintains the Hollywood Sign claims she didn’t get permission to film there.
TMZ shared an email from the group that controls the Hollywood Sign’s image. The email stated that while Sydney Sweeney’s team had permission to film, they didn’t have the necessary permits to use the Hollywood Sign for commercial purposes – like promoting a product. Now that Sweeney has released her video advertising her lingerie line, that’s precisely what’s happening.
Sydney Sweeney has also shared photos of herself modeling her new collection, which is expected to be much more popular and avoid the controversy of her previous work.

As a movie buff, the whole video felt like it was meant to give off a vibe of something secretive, like Zendaya and the cast were filming something they weren’t actually allowed to. So, the idea that they didn’t get permission? It honestly feels like that was the point – a very deliberate choice.
So, I heard from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce a few days ago about this film shoot, but honestly, it’s a bit of a mystery if anyone’s actually talked since then. It’s possible they’ve already worked everything out, or maybe there’s just been a misunderstanding. The production company might think they have all the permissions they need, even if that’s not actually the case. It’s a classic Hollywood puzzle!
As a huge cinema fan, I’m a little worried this video might cause some legal trouble. If the people filming weren’t authorized to be on and climb the Hollywood Sign, they could face criminal charges like trespassing or vandalism. Plus, using the sign’s image without permission could lead to a lawsuit over intellectual property rights. It’s a shame, because it was a cool video, but I hope it doesn’t cause too many problems.
