Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa are both known for starring in big, popular movies, often based on comic books. They consistently stand out in their films, captivating audiences with their charisma, action skills, and ability to make people laugh. Even if a movie isn’t a critical success, viewers usually enjoy watching them perform, which is why the new Prime Video action film, The Wrecking Crew, generated a lot of buzz. The movie pairs these two talented actors in a lighthearted adventure, and early reviews suggest it’s a hit.
Okay, let me tell you, I’m genuinely surprised by The Wrecking Crew. As of today, it’s sitting pretty at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 13 reviews. Now, usually, action movies that go straight to streaming don’t fare so well with critics, so this is a really positive sign. But here’s the kicker: this film actually breaks a pretty unfortunate streak for both of its leads. Their last few movies were all, sadly, rated ‘Rotten’ on the site, so this is a welcome change of pace!
| Actor | Movie | Rotten Tomatoes Score |
| Bautista | In the Lost Lands | 24% |
| Bautista | Trap House | 52% |
| Momoa | Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom | 33% |
| Momoa | In the Hand of Dante | 43% |
| Momoa | A Minecraft Movie | 48% |
What Critics Are Saying About The Wrecking Crew

Although there isn’t a widespread critical agreement on The Wrecking Crew yet, early reviews suggest a mix of positives and negatives. The movie’s plot follows a predictable formula, but the strong chemistry between Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa more than makes up for it, bringing a lot of energy and excitement to the screen. They work well together as action heroes, creating a classic buddy-cop feel. The film centers around two half-brothers investigating their father’s murder, and critics say Bautista and Momoa convincingly portray their sibling relationship.
While some reviews criticize The Wrecking Crew for covering familiar territory, most viewers seem to be having a good time. It probably won’t become a legendary action film, but it’s a perfectly enjoyable way to pass the time while browsing Prime Video. It’s a definite step up from other Prime originals like Playdate, and it’s likely to attract a large audience and climb the streaming charts.
While thirteen reviews isn’t a huge number, even for a movie released directly to streaming, it gives us a starting point. For context, Playdate currently has 31 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes – much less than a typical theatrical release, but it suggests that more reviews for Wrecking Crew may appear as more people watch it. It will be interesting to see if the movie’s score changes significantly with these new reviews. However, it probably won’t change drastically, as the first reviews usually reflect the overall opinion.
As a big fan of both Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, I’m really hoping The Wrecking Crew kicks off a winning streak for them! Momoa especially has a packed year coming up with some major projects like Supergirl, Street Fighter, and even Dune: Part Three. Bautista’s doing voice work for the new The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender movie, coming to Paramount+ in October. All these films feel like they could be huge, reaching a lot of people, and honestly, after some recent disappointments for both of them, I’m really hoping they all hit and make those rough patches just a temporary thing.
