Richard Gere Sets New 8-Part Apple TV Thriller Series With Ben Stiller

A well-known actor with a distinctive background has signed on for Ben Stiller’s upcoming Apple TV series.

Ben Stiller will star in and help produce the eight-part series, . Alissa Nutting, known for her work on , will be the showrunner. The series, announced in September 2025, centers around Gus Adler, a writer and professor played by Stiller, who finds it difficult to manage his life after a divorce, particularly when he’s with his children.

Gus finds his carefully managed life complicated when he falls for Stella West (played by Jessica Chastain, who also helped produce the show) during his time off. Recently, was added to the cast of The Off Weeks and will play the character Jonathan. Arian Moayed and Annaleigh Ashford are also confirmed to appear in the series.

Richard Gere is best known for his roles in films like Pretty Woman, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, and Chicago, for which he won a Golden Globe. More recently, he’s appeared in The Agency: Central Intelligence and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. He also received an Emmy nomination for his performance in the 1993 TV movie And the Band Played On.

Ben Stiller has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years thanks to his work with Apple TV on the hit show Severance. While already well-known as an actor and producer in comedies like Tropic Thunder and Zoolander, Stiller took on a significant role behind the camera with Severance, serving as an executive producer and directing eleven of its episodes. Directing isn’t new to Stiller, who previously directed films like The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Jessica Chastain won an Oscar for her role in the 2021 film The Eyes of Tammy Faye. She had previously been nominated for an Oscar for her work in Zero Dark Thirty and The Help. Beyond acting in films like Molly’s Game and Crimson Peak, Chastain has also produced several projects, including the popular Netflix series His & Hers, the film The 355, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and The Zookeeper’s Wife.

With fans anticipating the next season of Severance, a new thriller series might capture their attention. Apple TV+ is having a successful run, earning nominations for four out of twelve shows in the Golden Globes’ Best TV Series categories. Other popular shows from the streamer include Pluribus, The Studio, and Slow Horses.
