A popular fantasy film is now available on Prime Video, ten years after its original theatrical release. Recently, fantasy television shows have become incredibly popular, largely thanks to the success of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which has already spawned two spin-off series and more are on the way.
Prime Video has become a major player in fantasy entertainment, with shows like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power leading the way. Other series such as The Wheel of Time and The Legend of Vox Machina have also proven popular. Now, Prime Video has achieved a hit with a movie, gaining traction with viewers ten years after its initial release.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie Warcraft is now the 9th most popular film on Prime Video in the U.S. Originally released in theaters on June 10, 2016, Warcraft earned $439.1 million worldwide, but only $47.3 million of that came from American theaters. Ultimately, the film ended up losing money.

The fantasy film Warcraft has entered the top ten list, placing it higher than the Prime Video movie Playdate, which stars Alan Ritchson (known for Reacher) and Kevin James. However, it’s below other popular films like The Naked Gun, Ready Player One, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and A Minecraft Movie. Currently, Sinners holds the number one position, breaking records with its success.
Ryan Coogler’s vampire film recently achieved a record at the Oscars with 16 nominations – more than any other movie ever. This means the fantasy film Warcraft is in excellent company as one of the top ten most popular movies on Prime Video. It had already been a consistent performer on the streaming service, typically ranking between 8th and 10th.
Despite briefly leaving Prime Video’s top ten list in the US on January 26th, Warcraft returned the next day. The movie received poor reviews – only 29% positive on Rotten Tomatoes – which likely contributed to its disappointing performance in American theaters when it was released ten years ago.
Currently, Warcraft isn’t among the most popular movies on Prime Video worldwide. The platform’s top films include titles like The Tank, Ballerina, A Working Man, and It Ends with Us. While Warcraft didn’t do well in theaters and a sequel never happened, its recent popularity on streaming has gotten fans talking about the possibility again.
