As a huge horror fan, I’m loving how the genre is really having a moment right now! It’s been amazing seeing some classic horror films back in theaters, like Scream. I’m especially excited about the new Scream movie – the seventh one – and Mason Gooding, who plays Chad Meeks-Martin, recently said it’s the most like the very first film. Honestly, that just makes me even more hyped for it to come out in February!
Details about Scream 7 are scarce, as the franchise is careful to avoid spoilers. Mason Gooding, who played Chad in the previous two Scream films (available on Paramount+), will return for the seventh installment. He recently shared some hints about the upcoming movie with Deadline while at Sundance, saying:
I really enjoyed a scene from the trailer – specifically, when the knife goes through the wall as Isabel walks through it. I think the movie has something to appeal to a wide range of viewers. It feels like this installment, particularly with Kevin’s involvement, really captures the spirit of the original films, which is exciting for a longtime fan like me.
I’m already excited! The original Scream from 1996, directed by Wes Craven, is a personal favorite and really set the standard for modern slasher films. Now, Kevin Williamson, the original writer, is directing for the first time with Scream 7, and early reports suggest it will capture the same feel as the very first movie – if actor Mason Gooding is right.
The new trailer for Scream 7 hints at what fans can expect, and includes the exciting return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. After being absent from Scream VI and having a smaller part in the 2022 movie, it looks like the beloved Sidney is taking a leading role again. This return to form is likely why David Arquette feels the new film echoes the original Scream movie.

You can stream the latest Scream movies on Paramount+, which costs as little as $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. They offer two plans: an Essential plan for $7.99 a month and a Premium, ad-free plan for $12.99 a month. Check out the deals here!
I’m a little concerned about whether Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin will make it through Scream 7. The trailer shows them quickly being attacked by Ghostface in a bar, and it feels like Mason Gooding’s character is in serious danger. After surviving the 2022 movie, Scream VI had two killers repeatedly stab him, leaving him severely injured. Surprisingly, he not only lived through it, but was even cracking jokes at the end.
Since the Carpenter sisters aren’t coming back for the seventh film, Chad and Mindy are the only original characters from the group who starred in the previous two movies. Perhaps that means they’ll survive!
You’ll find out everything about Scream 7 when it arrives in theaters on February 27th, as part of the 2026 movie lineup. With the release date approaching, we should start seeing more promotion for the film, but let’s hope no major plot details are revealed beforehand!
