Following Kaley Cuoco’s recent statements about The Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre is determined to avoid repeating CBS’s past handling of the character Penny. While CBS has been the exclusive home for the show’s universe since 2017 – with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage continuing the story in the 2025-2026 season – Lorre plans to expand the franchise in a new direction later this year.
Even though The Big Bang Theory finished airing seven years ago, it’s still incredibly popular on TV and streaming services. While the show has continued through prequels like Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, these haven’t really connected to the original series. However, the new show Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is different – it’s the first sequel, and it gives CBS a chance to address a past issue with how they developed Kaley Cuoco’s character.
Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Has No Excuse Not To Bring Back Penny
In Stuart Saves the Universe, Stuart Bloom, played by Kevis Sussman, embarks on a journey across different realities to stop the complete collapse of everything. While the story is quite different from previous ones, it still takes place in the same universe, making it easy to bring back familiar characters from the Pasadena group. This is particularly true for Penny, as Kaley Cuoco has expressed her fondness for the show’s creator and willingness to reprise her role.
The actor has often expressed their love for Kaley Cuoco and her character, Penny, on The Big Bang Theory. So fans were really let down that Cuoco didn’t appear in the flashforward scene of the Young Sheldon finale, even though it featured Jim Parsons as the adult Sheldon. While Penny was mentioned in the show, a cameo appearance would have been much more satisfying. Considering Cuoco’s willingness to participate, it seems she wasn’t even asked to make an appearance. Hopefully, her next project, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, is a success.
How Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Can Benefit From Kaley Cuoco’s Return As Penny
With its imaginative storyline, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has plenty of options for bringing Penny back. She could make a quick appearance in the main timeline, letting viewers catch up on her life and potentially revealing whether Leonard is still alive. Alternatively, she could reappear in one of the alternate universes the show explores, offering a more playful cameo.
Even so, Kaley Cuoco returning as her popular character is expected to significantly increase attention for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Because fans still love the original Pasadena group from The Big Bang Theory, seeing them again will probably generate more excitement for the show’s upcoming sequel spinoff.
