Daredevil: How Foggy Nelson Is Back From the Dead in Born Again Season 2

Foggy Nelson is surprisingly returning in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, even though he was killed off in Season 1! The show previously shocked viewers by having Foggy shot and killed by Bullseye near Josie’s Bar – his first on-screen appearance since 2018. But this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so death isn’t always permanent.

The new trailer for Daredevil: Born Again shows the conflict with Mayor Fisk escalating, and brings back Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). It also features the return of Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), a character fans have long hoped wasn’t truly gone. Even Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, hinted at Foggy’s possible return. The trailer confirms Foggy will appear in the new season, but it’s unclear if he’s alive or if we’re seeing a scene from the past. If he is alive, how did he survive?

Could Foggy Nelson’s Death Have Been Faked In Daredevil: Born Again?

I’m not a doctor, but Foggy appeared to die in Season 1 – he was completely still and wasn’t breathing after being shot. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of surprises, and the comics have shown similar things happening. In one comic storyline, Foggy was seemingly killed in prison while visiting Matt, but it turned out to be a fake death – he went into witness protection with a new identity. Interestingly, Vanessa Fisk orchestrated that fake death in the comics, and she also ordered the hit on Foggy in the TV series.

As a huge fan, I was blown away when I discovered a little detail in the show that really supports the idea Foggy might still be out there! The law firm, Nelson, Murdock, and Page, was given the address number 468, which is a direct nod to Daredevil #88 – the very issue where we learn Foggy faked his death and went into witness protection! It’s amazing how much thought went into everything. Even Aaron Moorhead, who co-directed the episode where it looked like Foggy died, acknowledged the theory and the comic book connection. He jokingly said he’d love to confirm things, but Marvel wouldn’t let him say anything else, which just makes me even more convinced there’s something bigger going on!

It’s possible Foggy faked his death, maybe with Vanessa’s help, although it still seems far-fetched. Another possibility is a resurrection, as rumors suggest the ninja group called the Hand – known for bringing people back from the dead – might return in Season 3 of Born Again and target Daredevil. However, the most probable scenario, even if fans don’t want it, is that Foggy will reappear through flashbacks.

Foggy looks noticeably different in the Season 2 trailer than he did at the start of Season 1 – he has longer hair and is clean-shaven. This change could be related to the events surrounding his apparent death, but it’s more likely we’re seeing scenes that take place before the events of Born Again, possibly even during or before the Netflix series. Foggy’s impact on Matt was significant, so it makes sense his character would continue to be felt, even if he doesn’t return.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 debuts on Disney+ on March 24, 2026.
