3 SNES Games Are Returning on New Platforms This Week

Three classic Super Nintendo games are making a comeback later this week on modern systems. The SNES is widely considered one of the greatest video game consoles ever, largely due to its incredible library of games, including masterpieces like Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Earthbound. Now, a collection of SNES games connected to a well-known entertainment company will be released together.

Limited Run Games announced this week that the Nickelodeon Splat Pack will be released on January 30th. This collection features three classic SNES games from the mid-90s: Rocko’s Modern Life: Spunky’s Dangerous Day, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, and Guts. Aaahh!!! Real Monsters was also available on Sega Genesis, and that version is included in the Splat Pack as well.

Although not the most famous Nickelodeon games from the 90s, these titles were still well-liked. Rocko’s Modern Life: Spunky’s Dangerous Day received the best reviews and was considered a good platforming game. Guts and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters had more mixed reactions, but many Super Nintendo fans still remember them fondly.

What’s New With These SNES Games

This collection of classic SNES games, like many releases from Limited Run Games, includes some helpful new features. Players can now rewind gameplay to correct mistakes, save their progress at any point, and enjoy a dedicated music player to listen to each game’s soundtrack. Otherwise, these are mostly faithful versions of the original games with no significant changes to how they play.

The Nickelodeon Splat Pack will be available on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC for $14.99. While an Xbox version was planned, it has now been cancelled.
