Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake Gets Demo on March 5, Silent Hill f Collaboration Announced

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have revealed a demo for their upcoming horror game, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, will be available on March 5th for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. This announcement came with a new trailer, which you can watch below. Details about the demo’s content and whether progress can be transferred to the full game haven’t been released yet.

The demo was announced alongside news of a collaboration between Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake and Konami’s Silent Hill f. As part of this, the twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura in Fatal Frame 2 will receive new outfits inspired by the look of Silent Hill f‘s main character, Hinako Shimizu.

Okay, so I just watched the gameplay trailer, and it looks like you play as Mio, wandering around this seriously creepy, haunted village. You’re basically equipped with this Camera Obscura, which is your main tool for finding and battling ghosts. The cool part is you take photos of them with special film to actually capture these spirits. And it’s not just point-and-shoot – you can use different filters on your photos to really mess with the ghosts and exploit whatever they’re weak against. It looks like a lot of strategy goes into each encounter!

Special Shots like “Blinding” can temporarily disorient dangerous spirits, giving Mio a chance to strategize her next move or find a way to escape. Another Special Shot, “Purging,” lets Mio focus her willpower to inflict extra damage on powerful spirits.

Finally, the trailer reveals a new ending theme song, “Utsushi,” performed by Tsuki Amano, along with fresh side stories and areas players will be able to explore.

Okay, gamers, huge news! Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake is officially launching on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 12th. We first heard about this back in November, and the trailer showed off just how creepy and updated the haunted village and those vengeful spirits look – it’s built for the new consoles and a whole new generation of players like us!

The Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake isn’t just a visual and audio upgrade; it also updates the gameplay from the original 2003 PlayStation 2 game. A key new feature is “Holding Hands With Mayu,” which lets players feel the connection between the sisters in a new way. As seen in the latest trailer, this feature allows Mio to heal from injuries sustained during ghost encounters.

The remake of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly was first announced in September. At the time, details were limited to the new Holding Hands feature and a planned release in early 2026. However, a later trailer featuring director Makoto Shibata provided a closer look at the game’s enhanced gameplay.
